2003 vtr1000 cct

Hey guys,
I'm pretty new to motorcycling, and could just be paranoid.
I have brought a 2003 VTR1000 27, 000kms, have read some horror stories about the cct and sending pistons to meet the valves or wearing the cylinders egg shaped.
So I am constantly listening for a rattle and have noticed a slight rattle while accelerating, most noticeable between 2 and 3000rpm.
So any guidance is appreciated!

CCT failure is a well known problem for the VTR.

Mine went at approx. 28 000km's. If it goes you will know as the engine sounds completely crap at idle but will quiet down 'somewhat' when the engine is revved.

My CCT managed to go bang on the ride back from Paeroa street races. Nursed it home and luckily the cam chain jumped a few teeth but the engine did no damage.........service manager was not impressed :eek5:but hey it's a long way back.

If you have a CCT failure get it into the shop ASAP, then have them pick the bike up.

I had both replaced even though only the front CCT failed. Sold bike at 97 000km with no further issues.:yes:

Hey thank you very much for your helpful knowledge! Very much appreciated, I have decided to install some ape manual tensioners just for piece of mind.

Did you ever Change the number of teeth on your sprockets?

Best thing to do, but otherwise from what I've seen reliable as. A mate has a stock one & must have 70k on it at least. Apart from some carnage from a cct going, that he fixed & fitted APE its been fine.

So when you change to the APE tensioners do you have to replace the cam chains also?
Probably a dumb question.

My old VTR the tensionors went at about 30,000(ish) and had them replaced with APE I also replaces my cam chains as well and didn't have any mor issues... sold the bike with 60,000 on the clock and as far as I know theya re still going fine...
