I know of a guy in a slightly similar situation, where rather than clipping his side bags, his rear tire slipped out from under him. As the rear swung out, the bags hit the side walls of the narrow bridge he was passing, and actually buffeted him back upright, thus avoiding a fall.

haha oh I shouldn't laugh... having done loads of yacht racing I know exactly how unpleasant a fall in a boat cockpit can be.
Still though .. it was kinda funny.

Although there's no chance that even a full compliment of luggage buoyancy would keep an FJR from making like a submarine.

Yeah I think the bike I saw was a VStrom with home built panniers, even buses would get out of the way.

Have only tangled the panniers on the ducati once, trying to get the bike out of a corner where a dopey woman had parked and boxed me in, hooked one on a post and flicked the shiny cover off
Should have just scratched her car instead, and I suppose one of these days I should reattach it with more than just electrical tape...

in my travels on the ol gs i have encountered three situations where clearance was tight.the first i fit through but with mm to spare either side, the second i couldnt fit but the (pub)table moved, and the third was similar to the video above a bump and a wobble but no harm ensued.I did bend the crash bar i think

Well, you put the bike too close to the bollard (don't know if they checked the space before hand, didn't actually look very wide), less than half a metre in it... without that nice drop onto a jetty and boat, it would be been a minor drop... and they look like clowns.
Instead it was a spectacular fall since there was no ground to land on...
Perhaps I could work in marketing, understating the impact of stuff etc :shifty:

I like the traffic light ones. Perhaps should be standard fitting for dorkland traffic lights. It might reduce the red light runners, well at least the amount of 2nd light runners!

Nose to tail incidents would skyrocket... and traffic would come to a standstill as cars would be cleared away on every cycle.
Then again, on Day 2 there would be what... 50% less vehicles on the road?

You've got to admit it's a pretty impressive maneuver. Not many riders would have the balls to try that jump on their bike. If he'd had more speed and a slightly larger landing platform he might've made it.
