Be that as it may, we couldn't ride the chair like it was and we couldn't go back to the original system.

So I'll bribe one of you tech mofos into checking it over.

Besides, do the rules say no changes can be made between inspections?

I'd suggest that you investigate a sponsorship from a manufacturer of grinding discs....
No idea what if anything the rules say about how much modification needs a resubmit for examination, but most certainly this much change justifies it.
Doing it in a hurry should just make the examiner look at it much more closely too.

Years back when i was head scrut for the GP down here, Mo used to do the chairs for me. He was very forthright on the standard he expected and if someone fell short they heard about it in no uncertain terms....

Allowance for technical design:
All sidecars must have a technical sign off from technical steward. A log book
indicating the technical certification will be issued to all sidecars and each log
book will be registered to the sidecar for which it is issued.
The log book will remain with the sidecar for the life of the machine. Each log
book will be numbered and a metal tag bearing the corresponding
number will also be issued. This tag must be permanently affixed to the
sidecar in a position readily available for inspection. The log book must be
handed to the machine examiner for sign off prior to an event. Transferring
the Log Book or ID Tag to another sidecar is prohibited.
The log book must be current and will be renewed every two years from the
dateofissue.
Thissection does not apply to side cars(Buckets) as described in Chapter 24.
18.7i All sidecars must have a technical sign off from technical steward.
The design of the under tray on the F1/F2 sidecar comprises of a number
of functions.
1. A catch tray for the capacity to catch spilled oil.
2. It is also an integral part of the design and aero dynamics of the
motorcycle.
3. The tray is used as an integral part of the system to secure and fix the
exhaustsystem to the sidecar.
4. Given that Carbon Fibre is more than equivalent to steel or alloy and
provided the tray totally meets the protection and intent of the rule
then carbon fibre be allowed provided it is originally supplied by the
manufacturer of the sidecar.
18.7j No part of the streamlining shall protrude more than 550 millimetres in front
of the front tyre. Any streamlining and its supports must not interfere with the
steering of the machine.

Nothing about not hacking shit up in there.

Somebody smarter than me commented on ricks chair when I was rebuilding it, saying that having the side wheel backward of the swingarm pivot would just make the rear light up everywhere. He was right, and that was only about 30mm out.

I didn't believe him until I googled imaged my brains out.

I'd be leaving it in line with the side wheel and just making it higher to get the right chain geometry if I was you.

The original intention was any major change to the chair would be recorded and checked so there was a recorded history of any modification

The log books are just an exercise in box ticking they don't really serve any real purpose

Nah. I understand why what he's talking about happens I think, but I reckon it is the lesser of the two evils on our outfit.

If your swingarm pivot is a long way from the front sprocket, drive torque effect on suspension is amplified. I want that control back, in the form of shock alterations. Yeah the tyre now leans the wrong way relative to the direction slightly more. But since torque is affecting it to a lesser degree because we have the ride height more stable, it will be clser to right than the alternative.

This is all specific to our spastic chair, and will not be true on anything built to any sort of plan at all.

I might start to listen to ya'll when ya tell me not to do stuff. Except Gordie, what would he know? He just makes kitchens.

I'm really happy with the stability of the chair now. We can ride this thing in confidence now and have fun doing skids and stuff. I'm told it leaves mint stripes out of Barrel at Hampton.

Only things pissing me off now. The gear shifter doesn't fucken work half the time, and I want a torque arm holding the front brake caliper. There's no point trying to set geometry at the front to make gains, for it to all be for fuck all when ya touch the brakes and it goes straight to full extension and essentially have no suspension/bump compliance.

As a quick after thought. We're currently running a 3/4 Tilton master cylinder for the front brake, and 15/16 for the rear and chair. Since we don't have a great deal of room for a longer brake lever to get a softer peddle and some more braking power, I'd like to try the 3/4 we have for the rears, and 11/16ish for the front if someone has one we could borrow to trial before we shell out for a new one. To be clear, we run the full size car style masters.

No stress bro. I'll go see what he says for sure.

To be clear, I don't have to cut anything up or change the front end to fit a torque arm. The allowance is there to mount one now. We just had it mounted to the emergency caliper before, and the mounting plate wasn't tough enough for the amount of force the main caliper creates, and it twisted. We just roll the caliper mounting plate around the axle, and chuck a bar from the main one to the fork leg.

Fix is solid rails rather than tubular ones.

I was literally just about to message you regarding the balance shaft. Thanks for answering if I can just give it the flick.

There is some obvious wear on the dogs and cogs on the output shaft, and one or two surfaces on the other.

Scrivy had to get solid selector pivot rods for the Busa too, sounds common to Suzuki.

The ZX14 had aftermarket alloy replacement for the balance shaft, very nice waisted piece. Doesn't have to be that fancy, turn up something to fill the hole when it's removed. Crank wasn't rebalanced, solid mount in a car, no complaints....

Balance shaft in the 12 has a removable spindle so that it can be timed up, as it mounts in the bottom half of the cases. We'll just take the lump and put the spindle back in.

Well, Wanganui was good fun and the chair went great...after we plugged in the quick shifter plug properly. Fuck it!

We were set to leave the track in unfamiliar territory. It didn't need any work...untill Dee fucking Winter crashed into it as she was driving through the pits at the end of the day. STUPID FUCKING WOMAN.

After a measure up, the new chair is not a short long, or long short. It's less than 100mm longer than big red. Simply put, its a monocoque short chair.
