I have been collecting bits and pieces for my new build, and have finally made some progress towards blending them all together.
Frame and swing arm are mc18
Engine is TF125
Forks are vfr400 shortened to 700mm
Shock is R6 Yamaha
17" rear wheel spoils the rake of the forks but the longer shock and shorter forks seem to bring it back somewhere near where it should be

Hoping to have it running for Tokoroa

Why can I see what looks like a reedvalve conversion in the darkness? Or is it more RGV150 than Mudbug?
Looks nice. R6 shock will be oversprung/damped quite somewhat.

No RGV, all Mudbug. Have made it full Crankcase reed no piston port inlet.
Spring rate is actually lighter than std nsr - diffferent linkage system I guess but feels ok so far. Sag seems about right to start with anyhoo.

Is that a 28mm carb with some sort of filler (devcon??) to reduce ot to 24mm?
F5 Dave
4th December 2012, 15:03
oh yeah good point. I guess its a 125, never occurred to me (even though said at the top, used to 100s in the old days with TFs). Looks like a ally sleeve possibly pinned on the right & cut for the needle jet.

Well spotted you two, 28mm Mikuni ex 3xv tzr250 with ally sleeve

Really? I would have said 1KT (or 2MA which is the same) I thought the 3XVs had 34s or something, but that queer protrusion under the PJ tube is odd. . ..Hmm ok seems the Rs had 28s, but the SPs had 36s.
Does that protrusion hole need plugging? I suspect it leads to an air solenoid like on a Jap model RGV & is meant to open when idling for emissions reasons. I'd bung it up for first try.

That's real cool!
I'm interested to pick your brains about how the R6 shock is at Tokoroa.
I plan to give it a try with mine, which is also MC18 framed, I think it has a good chance of working well.
Experimenting with it is being held up by me not getting a new pip finished, the current one is close to the bottom of the swingarm and is stopping me raising the rear as the bike so desperately needs. (I also have a 17 on the back.)

So ,had our race debut and have to say I`m pretty happy with it first time out with minimal setup.
Rear tyre was 10 years old and would not ball up and work properly, also had some carb issues which I hope will be sorted for Taumaranui.
Tyre has already been changed for a near new Pirelli SC1 - should be a vast improvement in the back end .
Suspension was better than I thought it would be - front was magic and shock worked really well with the honda linkage letting it travel through its stroke without being harsh at all.

I thought i would give the Bucket a run on the big track (Taupo 2) - had a great time at round 2
Managed a PB of 1:25.8 in qualifying but it came at a price.....
Stoopid me forgot to change to a colder spark plug so by lap five of practice the plug electrodes had melted which started the dreaded Detonation
That resulted in a siezed piston which I figured to be no big drama as I have a spare in stock....................
Then I took the barrel off and noticed a funny line across the bottom gasket face
So, need to make a new barrel for the GP as well as finish the 50 - That detonation is powerful stuff eh !!

Hi Farmaken, Did you leave the oil pump on the engine or are you using premix? I'm putting a tf125 into an rg250 frame at the moment (will start a build thread soon).

Hi Gus, no oil pump on mine - running premix
How far along is your build ? Will we see you at Tokoroa next month ??

so what happen at the gp ken ? was told you had some promblems
Farmaken

The new barrel had sex with the piston....
Turns out it was an air leak as suspected - the original carb mount/ inlet duct has been cut off the barrel and filled with devcon but in my haste to get the new barrel done I can't have cleaned the port properly before the Devcon went in. Was ok until it got hot for the first time then started leaking.....
and after several laps of cutting in and out it seized on the inlet side. Could not work that out when I first pulled the barrel but the air leak and seize are in the same place
Problem has been fixed by welding an alloy plate into the port over the Devcon so should be cured

I was gifted an nsr250 cylinder with damage from worn power valves and flakey plating - thanks Rob. Initially intended to try and replicate the port and duct layout in a mudbug cylinder, but then on a wet weekend I got a bit loose with the disc grinder and Tig welder.

Man I wish I could weld.
I seem to remember Yow ling has a finned RGV250 cylinder on an RG bottom end, might be worth talking to him about what they did and if it worked out. Remember the NSR has a 54mm stroke so you'll probably have to raise the bottom of your transfer ports. I loved the old (MC21) NSR's, they were absolute tractors compared to the RGV's.
