That looks like fun
3rd December 2012, 19:05
So I have sat in my cabin for long enough :crybaby: Its time to ride :Punk:
On Saturday the 15th at 9:00 o'clock in the morning time, myself and a small but brilliant group of Naki Boys (possibly some shiela's also) will attempt a stealthy border crossing into ....................... (pause for dramatic effect <_<)
The Wairarapa
Loose plan at present is, weather permitting we will head south going up (yes up) the big yeah na hill of Liqufaction fame  Unless of course its wet in which case for very obvious reasons we wont .
Tarseal from there to Pahiatua, Stock up brekky supplies then tear into some gravel stuff and a dirt road :woohoo:
We will be staying the night at www.tararua.net/glenross/index.html After dining in the fine atmosphere of the Pongaroa Pub and a good nights sleep its brekky from the supplies then off to Little Manuhara Rd, Makiro Track, North Ridge Rd, then Takapari Rd. After lunch we might go for another ride <_<
This will be a very informal ride (and yes I know its late notice) but all and any are welcome to join us or meet up with us for all or part of the ride.

Tally ho chaps, over the top with you. Have fun I am off to make a cup of tea :innocent:

We will be staying the night at www.tararua.net/glenross/index.html

:

Last time I stayed there the owners put on a lovely home cooked roast meal and then came back in the morning and did bacon and eggs for breakfast. Very hospitable and at a really good price

Ahh yes, I remeber that roast meal well mate. Its a nice place to stay and I would recomend it to any one. I have stayed there numerous times since that roast  then $5 for bacon and eggs breakfast
For this ride because it is late organising and so I cant guarentee numbers, rather than put Pauline out with cooking we will take the courtesy bus to Pongaroa and dine at the Pub. Did this with the last group and it was awesome. Food and hospitality were first rate.
Brekky we will be grabbing bread etc from Pahiatua and sharing the cost. Pauline puts on coffee and milk from memory. Dont know how she makes money but she is a damn fine host.
On another note, how is the wing mate? If you ask nice you can drive a moto kar over and spend a night with us if you feel the need  promise I wont tell you took a cage to a ride :Police:

See how your #s go there might not be any beds left, as for taking the cage your to late. Went up and caught up with the Hawkes Bay crowd at the museum on Ross's ride. Also heading up to the Bay this weekend for a BMW event dam cage but I promised her indoors that I would stay off the bike for 6 months. Doesn't stop me sitting on ot in the shed though.:laugh::laugh:

No Update Mate been doing very little since my off at the MMM ride. Haven't seen a doctor for 2 1/2 months so not sure how it is going.
But finished work for the year on the 29/11 having 7 weeks off so I was told. So there could well be some progress over the next few weeks. Seeing that Im not riding. Just having a few days off to start with to wind down from work.

Hi Ross, plan is to wake up Sunday morning, eat brekky then ride like the wind :scooter:
We are staying at Glenross Lodge. its a backpackers about 6 ks South of Pongaroa on 52. Aiming to be on the road by 8:30 ish  Then Little Manuhara Rd, Manuhara Rd, Waihi Valley Rd, Towai Rd to Cooners Rd, then onto the Makiro.
A Coffee at Pahiatua then Tararua Rd, Pahiatua Track then along Ridge Rd to the Gorge. Lunch at Ashurst then up to Takapari, knock the bugger of and head for home. :wari:
Unless we are still pulling bikes out of the mud on the Makiro of course

Local knowledge question? will we do all that and get Mo home to Warea by 7:30 :corn:

You'll be alright as long as you don't piss around too much. If you like waterfalls, Waihi falls is worth the side trip. Not far out of the way, but allow half an hour at least.

Makairo will soak up about an hour and a half. No drama, just take your time. This is not a track to rush or play Crusty Demons.

Takapari's in and back. It's about half an hour to the hut from the road. Allow an hour and a half by the time you stop and take photos. If you go past the hut it'll be longer, so only do this if you have time.

The rest is up to how slow you guys are. She'll be a long boring haul back home though. You'll need to be back on main roads by 4pm. Shouldn't be a big problem.

I'll see if I can tag along for the Sunday. I've got a lot on, but might be able to escape for a few hours. :niceone:

Ok, Im back
Managed to survive another week in Taumaranui :sweatdrop So quick update on whats happening, leaving my house in the Naki 9 o/clock (ish). Down to Fonganui (thats Wanganui with an H for the uneducated among us) via Kia Iwi loop, a half dozen back roads plus some stinky state highway and we should be in Pahiatua around 2:00 to 2:30 ish. Some coffee and supplies then Pori rd and Puketoi rds, check into Glenross and collapse.
Day 2 is as previously described.

Now can someone please explain to me why I have to go back to Taumaranui next week?

I'll see how things go, but there's a small chance I'll see you out there somewhere on Sunday morning. Probably somewhere in the vacinity of the Little Manuhara or Pongo.

Not much rain lately so she'll be dry and dusty.

Well I tried to find ya. Oh well, it was a good ride anyway.

Went almost all the way through the Makairo (from the east) to find the bridge is closed. Someone's welded steel beams across, so had to go all the way back through. Pretty knackered after that. Perfect day for it though.

Sorry we missed ya Bart, Glenross was weaning lambs and mustering sheep so we got away a bit earlier than anticipated.
If you are strong you can lift your bike over the first beam and slide it under the second one (I'm just saying it could be done :msn-wink:) Bit rough leaving Bambi legless like that tho <_<
Phil has photos so once his broadband is up and running again we will post some pics.
Jeez that Wairarapa is a neat playground :wings:

Don't feel bad....I had problems getting my bike started, so left DVK at about 8.03, getting to Pongaroa at 8.35 (almost a new record, but the DR hasn't quite got as much poke as my old ZX-9R). Waited around Pongo until 9.00. Decided I'd better see where you were, so road to the Glenross place. You weren't there, so back to Pongo, hooked around to the Little Manuhara only to find a tree across the track. No big drama, but decided not to shag around and gapped it for Waihi Falls, expecting to meet you guys on the way out. Nope, so up the Towai, no stops, straight into the Makairo. Gave it shit all the way through (got a bit pear shaped a couple of times, but no drama). About to give up, absolutely knackered, come to the bridge. Not a shit show solo, so backtracked all the way out again and went home with my tail between my legs.

Hey, but like I said....don't feel bad. Next time you sort out a ride I'll be half an hour early.
