Anyone here got one?
I'm having a hard time finding out if the models sold in N.Z. come with a GPS receiver built-in.
(I'll need to go to an actual shop soon and poke around in the control panel.)

Oh well, answered.
Shop staff were clueless, but poking around its settings and comparing with a Samsung next to it, seemed to show that GPS was there. (Also found it in a booklet nearby).
Oddly, the thing has NFC, but not Bluetooth.

Thats a bit weird. Both techs I'd turn off, but of the 2 I'd find bluetooth much more useful.
Wonder why they ran with that setup? maybee less licensing fees with NFC maybee?
You sure it doesn't have Bluetooth??? Sony site says it has Bluetooth 4.0

The thing makes for an awkward digital wallet!
I'd much rather have Bluetooth on it. It's got HDMI and VGA outputs, so, say it was on a shelf next to the T.V. or external monitor, it'd be nice to control it from a distance via Bluetooth keyboard.

So does the Noel Leeming website. On the other hand their website doesn't mention the GPS.
The Sony brochure doesn't mention Bluetooth but does say it's got GPS.
In the shop I brought up the Wireless settings screen, to compare the Samsung and Sony, to see if either mentioned location services, and the Sony did not show Bluetooth.
This is something I'm finding very frustrating - getting a definitive set of specifications for products.
Heck, I just got an email from Bond and Bond in reply to my enquiry via their website, and they're telling me the Sony does not have GPS!

Well blow me down and smack me in the face with a Koala.
Turns out it does have Bluetooth.
(And the GPS is a "Sony cxd5400".)
Happy me...

Why would you buy a Sony????
Hopefully Sony products have changed since I last bought a Sony computer
Ram, from Sony and way overpriced... Proprietary.
Software , proprietary and didn't talk to other software
All in all never again
Why do companies do this , aka apple?
Anyway good luck

Because consumers are too stupid to make informed decisions, so they fall for whatever marketing drivel the big corporations spew out to the masses.

Yea sorry to say, but you're a bit behind the time there on both fronts. It must have been quite awhile since you had something from either company Im guessing

Yeah, it's a tablet. The 4GB is pretty much "that's it". Not user changeable. (Actually there's an 8GB version, so presumably there'd be a way (even if it meant desoldering surface mount chips). But I won't ever bother. Won't need to.)

What I've learned is that there's different devices to suit different people.
Smokeu derides "consumers" who buy these particular brands, but I happen to have very specific reasons for wanting/needing a Windows 8 Tablet, and this Sony was the one currently available for purchase that best met my particular needs.
At the same time as I bought this Windows 8 Tablet, I got an Apple iPad 4 for my Wife. Her needs are different than mine. (She has a work supplied iPhone 4S, which she's "stuck with" for at least another year, and she's getting very used to using it - so it simply made sense for her tablet to be an iPad. Her previous work phone (previous job) was a Samsung Galaxy SII which she liked, and if she still had that maybe I'd have got her an Android Tablet.)
I once was a "never an Apple" person, but I got over it.
---
I've also learned that brand issues come and go. About four years ago I had an awful experience with Dell over a laptop, which I ended up sending back (and then battled them on their restocking fee). I swore never to buy from them again, but just this year bought my new Desktop from them; which I've been very happy with on several counts.
---
I recommended a Nexus 7 to a mate whose Wife wanted a tablet. She was very happy with it. They've gone down $100 since then, too. Great value if it's specs suit.
I'm not surprised you love it - but how'd it replace your phone?

I swapped to Skype if someone really wanted to call, and line ( SMS the japs love it )
I use a mobile WiFi router which connects up to 6 devices and is an actual 10 Mbps down ( slow lte is out now )
So I found myself using the phone less and less
This nexus is fast easy to use and convenient much better than my a500 which I gave to my 8 yr old boy
Sorry I'm an old stick in the mud , you get one or two chances before you go into the sin bin from which there is no escape
The last product to enter the sin bin was Ubuntu unity.
I was looking at the galaxy note 2 ,,but the price of the nexus 7 and maybe I'll get a nexus 4 ,,, the price makes it a no brainer
This ( nexus 7 ) was 20 000 yen online , the iPad mini is 30 something,,,

Thanks.
Yep Skype is way cool. I use it for clients in Auckland and Rotorua (I'm in Wellington, sort of).
I thought that might be what you were using, but didn't know how that helped when you were out and about. Is that a function of Japan having WiFi everywhere, or is that what the mobile WiFi router is doing for you? (That is, does it connect to the cellular network there?)

It connects to the cellular network WiFi is backwards here, tethering is just being introduced and there is free WiFi but I can't get it to work
The japs are so analogue sometimes

Factoid if you're interested. Tethering is an extra cost on some mobile providers in USA, but here Telecom, it's free. SIII has mobile hotspot built in, so dropped the WIFI hotspot we used to carry and have more data on the phones instead. Chews battery life something chronic though.

... check installed hardware, rather than what shows up in winblows, a ghey install might have missed a few things that it couldn't ID/ didn't know what drivers/ the generic ones don't work.
have you looked at the model on pricespy.co.nz (specs tab) - sometimes useful.
you totally need better customers.

wtf? isn't it just connecting ph to PC??
maybe that explains why the C5 doesn't f*cking support it.
(nokia tech support (live from india): "no there will be no support for that, is there anything else we can help you with?"
"you haven't fucking helped me with anything in the first place.":faceplam:)
