Motorbike de-restrictor help?

Ok so just after some info if anyone has any actual knowledge on these items?

I bought this de-restrictor for my ZXR 250 C a few years back and I am looking at selling it online, however other than assuming that it will do what was claimed - derestrict a ZXR250 - what could this item be described as and what range of motorcycles would you think it could be fitted to? I saw online in a description that this kind of device may fit any early 90's Kawa ZX but is this true? Would it fit?

Also in advance to the losers who will post replies such as "why would you derestrict a 250 that would never go that fast anyway" and "why dont you just use a resistor" save it... Your wife/girlfriend doesn't care about your whining, neither do we.

It's made by Posh which is a pretty big Japanese aftermarket parts company.
Does it have any kind of part number/product codes on it?

Yours looks like an early model one, but the listing I have (see attached pic., item near centre of image under big green Kawasaki word. Looks to be same 2 wire model but a bit flasher than your one.) shows ZXR250/400 89-99 and ZXR750 89-95. You can buy these new for between US$50-60 plus shipping.

Manufacturers name is "POSH Red Rev Super Limiter Cut". Most people refer to them as a Speed Cut, it just removes/bypasses the electronic speed limiter fitted to Japanese import models.

You don't need the de-restrictor, what you need is a red powerband because that makes the VTEC kick in 20% harder.

Nah I just had the 250, and there was little need to install it for 3 reasons:

1 - It was just a 250... the delimiter was better suited to a 400 or 750 with some guts

2 - I'm an engineer, not much of a rider, so I mostly pulled the bike apart and fixed things while I owned it rather than attempting to push it down the road past it's limits.

3 - I had no fricken idea where it went... lol :shutup:

Oh, and I should have mentioned that I sold the bike years ago. Now I'm just clearing up boxes of bits in my garage.

Thanks for all the help on this thread. I contacted Posh Japan directly and they were really helpful and confirmed basically what was mentioned above regarding the model and fitting 250 400 and 750.

Hi folks- just looking at buying a zxr 750 which has a 180k speedo so i'm figuring its an import and can be derestricted using one of the gismo's mentioned- does anyone know how easy it is to do?

One of the wires from the three wire plug on the speedo needs to be earthed with a small resistance (you can measure it across the circuit) often it's the pink wire at the CDI unit
Second way to derestict and keep the speedo is to simply pull the speedo apart and remove the three wire unit and ciruit baord and cable tie it out the way
Third way is to cut off the tab from the back of the speedo (the speed cut is a hall effect trigger)
The fourth and stupid way is to waste money on a stupid "de-restrictor" box, which is just a resistor in a fancy case.

That derestrictor will plug/play on a ZZR400K also, and my above comments will do the same job for free
