Bike transport from Christchurch to Auckland?

Someone must a transport question every week, but I can't find a thread.
I need to get a bike from CHCH to Auckland before the 27th of December.... is paying $400-500 for bike transporters the only safe way? (I don't have enough time to ride it myself).
Suggestions/experiences please!
