I have been looking at the Star Raider on you tube and bike magazines and it seems to rate very highly but Yamaha NZ don,t seem to have any plans to sell either the Stryker or the Raider here .Does any body have any knowledge about these bikes and has any body imported one of them cheers. :wait:

My friend Mike at Victory at Mesa says they are very nice to sit on. He didn't get to take it for a ride though.

I cannot understand why Yamaha has not imported these bikes, they would be very popular.

Well I finally got my Raider ,I took it to the Hokianga via Dargaville and back thru the Twin bridges ,it is awesome it handles great, terrific power and acceleration with some of the best brakes I have ever used and I haven,t scraped the pegs yet .The paint and chrome and general fit and finish is of a very high standard infact I have never seen better. Last night I MODIFIED THE EXHAUST sounds great, so I have been nervous about buying this bike from Wisconsin seeing as I never sat on one let alone ridden one but all the write ups were right and they are BLOODY AWESOME BIKES and I AM ONE BLOODY HAPPY OLD BASTARD cheers  :scooter: :woohoo:

Yes - I'd be interested in pics.

IIRC correctly Yamaha has more than 50% of the bike's weight on the front wheel.
We had a Star 950 around Kiwi Rider for a while and both me and Stretch thought it was one of the best handling 'Middleweight' cruisers.
Up there with the Triumphs.

I,ave had some time on the raider now and Ihave to say for such a raked out design and weighing in at 730lbs it is a real joy to ride on twisty roads as I had a vn1600 vulcan and I found that hard work but the bike I have ridden the last 4 years was a vn900 custom with a front end that had gold emulators and progressive springs and this vulcan would have been one of the best handling cruisers around and the Raider feels like a larger version. i ,m sorry guys but Iam hopeless on the computer and I don,t know how to upload photos.

For comparison:

VN1600 - 32 rake, 184 trail
VN900 - 32 rake, 165 trail
Stratoliner - 31 rake, 152 trail
Raider - 39 rake, 109 trail

The handling has more to do with the trail, not the rake (within reason, or unless you do a lot of U turns). The VN1600 has over the top trail. 4" on the Raider would seem to be a sweet spot between 3" - 6" in trail.

I heard next years model will have significantly more power, but will be longer and wider. Might be ponderous around town, but good on the open road.

They're changing the name to the Star "Destroyer" too, apparently.

Here's a sneak pic:
