Well we went to see 'The Hobbit, An Unexpected Journey' last night in all its HFR 3D glory…
I don’t know what these critics are on about. It just looked like a really crisp 3D movie, no sore eyes just really nice to watch… Its an incremental increase in quality but its hardly going to make your head explode or your eyes fall out. What a bunch of wankers...
Oh - the movie??? It’s a great yarn and one I’ve loved since I was 13, so yeah I’m a fanboy I suppose! Its funnier and lighter than LOTR and well worth the hype. Vicki and I totally totally enjoyed it.

Hey Paul, what sort of tele do you have at home (same for anybody else replying)?
I wonder if those that can't gel with it do not have 100hz+ TV at home (i.e. older or cheap LCDs, or CRTs)?
I have a mate who recently got himself a 100hz LED TV, and he just doesn't like it... to his eye, everything is in fast forward (obviously impossible). I do not know if it's the frame creation that inserts the extra frames giving it an artificial feel that he doesn't gel with him, or maybe it's just the higher frame rate full stop that he doesn't like.
I do know that it's common for older movies buffs brought up on 24fps to have Blu-Rays etc, so the dislike itself isn't uncommon.

Crossover sequel? would be a bit different, "Yippee-ki-yay, you fools!" Then again, Gandalf is pretty much just a more civilised John Mclane anyway so it might gel.

100hz full HD LCD...
I take your point BUT we are talking movie critics here. They should be up with the play on the latest quality video. Honestly if you didn't know it was 'different' you would just think it was a very cleverly filmed and colored movie.. Its a big fuss about feck all but its definitely a step forward...
Personally I just think these wankers want to appear geniuses so they find something negative to say to make themselves look clever. Real Simon Sweetman stuff...

Yeah, it's a bit curmudgeonly (lol at Simon Sweetman).
For me I find it's the opposite... when I see a regular TV, it just seems lifeless. Weird

I think his living room may be too small & he is sitting too close to the telly.

I think his living room may be too small & he is sitting too close to the telly. It's a 42" from about 3.5 metres. Samsung 6200 series IIRC FWIW. Would that be too close? Maybe 3 metres.

There is an equation floating around that lets you know the "ideal" distance range for ant given TV. You take the height of the viewable screen and multiply by 5 for the minimum distance from the screen and multiply by 8 for the maximum distance from the screen. As a side note a lot of TVs have image processing that I think makes the picture look crap. They are usually able to be turned off. Personally I find Sony TVs have an oil on water quality about the picture.

Thankx for that - I've been looking for a new screen for home and that will be a big help. I'll work back from where we want the screen to go...
Just to check, you are sure its the height? As most manufacturers give the diagonal

I went on opening day with the entire engineering crew.
I dont know what they thought, but I liked it.
Wasn't in 3d with the high frame rate that we saw though.

Yes, it is height. For example, My 37" TV screen is 46.5cm high, this gives me a Minimum of 232.5cm and a Maximum of 372cm. So somewhere between 2 and 4 metres is fine. It just happens by chance our couch is 3.1m back from the TV.
