This is the bike for you Smokie! Better than one of those wee commuter bikes all day long!

Will need a good thrashing to run it in properly.

It's a bit pricey for me though. Still a nice bike, although for that sort of cash I'd prefer a CBR1000RR or R1, but unfortunately I'm a bit too much of a n00b to ride something like that.

It's about $3-4000 too much.

Agree, starting price is way too high. Give him time and the price will come down.

Given there's effectively no difference between a 2k and 10k bike, and the punters know it, short of him getting a sucker I expect so.

The $2k SV will probably have a extra $2k worth of pipes and bling!

I though the very last summer fest SV's were arounf $10k brand spanking.

12-ish I thought. So he is dreaming at 10.

And it has no bling.

2000km vs 10000km.

I'd quite like one for commuting. Cheap enough to drop, rattles windows, and fits between cars. What's not to like?

(aside from the excess of power for the purpose, the fuel, tyre and chain consumption, the low pegs, the cheap suspension and the lack lustre build quality)

But seriously, for the price you can't go wrong :sweatdrop

Yep, the SV1000 might be for the most part a complete sack of shite, but you can't fault the prices!!!

Svs are like any other motorcycle ie only as quick as the sack of shite in charge of it is prepared to go,nothing has done more for modern motorcyclists ability than the internet.:bs:

2000kms is nothing but it's still not brand new. There are much nicer ones out there for less money.

That a VTR1000 for the same price will be better in every way except (maybe) for the numbers on the odometer and rego label.

Absolutely.

But the SV1000 I rode was still the most disappointing, cheap feeling (for a price that could get you a real bike) piece of motorcycle I've come across despite it's ability to produce go-to-jail speeds on a whim. I'd be surprised if anyone bought one after riding a TL or a VTR.

Agreed on the 1st comment but your second was interesting, never ridden a later VTR but rode an early one and found it only slightly more interesting than my alarm clock at 5am,think they enlarged the fuel tank in the later ones, other than that?

I came close to a SV thou. Was 2007 with 16000km. Sold for 7k.
You can see what I went for...
One day I think I'll return to a IL4 1000cc...when I trust myself with 150+hp!

I think the suspension was a bit different, the cam chains a little less dodgy and the later model had some fancier clocks. I've ridden both (a good half dozen second gens while looking to buy) and while not wet dream material, my impression was that the VTR was a much sharper steering machine than the SV. Both had pretty boring (though plentiful power delivery) without any of TLs top end.

From a test riding perspective probably the biggest difference IMO was the build quality, especially the SVs switchgear just felt cheap and flimsy. I know it's not what really counts when the rest of package delivers but it was just a constant reminder that it was a budget bike.

Trust yourself? What exactly are you going to do with this 150+hp?which fwiw is on the low side these days. You could stare it into submisson/dress up in the most expensive look at me suit you can buy and pretend or simply ride round on it caring not, either way unless your doing serious track time its all a tad overkill eh.

Fair call, ive not ridden many SVs,a mate has one that ive ridden once and found uncomfortable though to be honest i just wanted my TL back so didnt give it a fair go really.Had an offer from a bloke to swap his SV for my S a year or so back but declined as the thing is almost part of the furniture ive had it so long.

Fair enough.

I've never even seen your TL in the flesh and I'd only swap an SV for it if it came on the back of (and including)
a damn good ute.

I've only ridden one TL and it had rear sets that made me feel like a raped midget. The power delivery was as close to perfect as I've come across for NZ roads though. Giggles everywhere and always building to a decent peak without being quite as batshit crazy as the CBGSZXR1s. I ended up buying a much newer 'Busa but I'd definitely reconsider a TL if I came across one in the future with the spare time and effort to make it my own.

do you still have the black one you had?I still do. I have it in bits again, adding some new stuff.

Well, unless he's a magician. Or is sitting at home with a credit card. Or a bit of both.

Interesting about the switch gear... I actually like it better than the Honda stuff

Yes the hp is overkill but the torque is as good at usual road rpm and smoother. The tank ange superior when ridden equally and obviously the handling is excellent. I care mot for thers opinion on my choice of steed and always have older, used bikes which are a few neddies down on the latest engines. The most fun bike I've had was a 600 Yamaha and on track it was a riot and perfectly acceptable riding to work for a year til I lost my lcense on it
The main reaon, though is that I dont see any late model twins being released these days to become my next bike in time...
