Some nice work in the gallery. A lot of flower/floral design. Do you know if he does freehand work(without stencil)?

Check out Sacred Tattoo in Karangahape rd (in the arcade behind Starbucks). Dean Sacred is a bit more expensive than the other guys there but they are all pretty good.

Sacred, Otautahi or The Tattooed Heart. I got mine done at The Tattooed Heart by Liesje and I am very happy.

I can't remember their hourly rate, but my tattoo cost around $1200. Don't forget that hourly rates aren't really comparable between artists, because a tattoo that an experienced artist might do in 2 hours could take a backyard operator twice as long (for an outcome that isn't as good). I do remember that the hourly rate was identical to the rate at Sacred. I would guess the rate was $120 an hour, but don't quote me (and this was a year ago).

I find this anti-stencil stance entertaining, I assume that its an ignorant method of sorting the good from the bad?

A good tattooist will select the best tools for the job at hand, If he decides for that job to make a stencil then so be it. Especially if they go to the trouble to draw it up for approval before the work commences.

I'm glad you are entertained and agree. I have a tattoo that needs fixing though and you are not going to get a stencil that fits around the current one. Hence, they need to be good at free hand.

I wasn't so much commenting on your situation (being quite aware before I posted that I have no idea what it is) but on the fact Ive seen/heard people multiple times talk about stencils like they are the hallmark of a bad tattooist.

I went to someone whose hallmark is he freehand work, He drew the outline on me with a marker.......

+1. If I recall, he was formerly a jockey or summat............He should have stuck at that, as he had no "vision" when it came to tattooing.

Awesome, all the staff at the tattooed heart are brilliant. My sister had some work done by Ben, and she was really happy with it. I don't know anyone that has had a bad experience there.
