Hi all

As the title suggests, looking for some good day rides around Christchurch, apart from the usual Gebbies pass, Sign of the Kiwi and the Akaroa Gp rides, any places/roads people have found that are a bit twisty and fun?

Had a quick search on the site but didn't find any threads of the sort - any links to ones past would be appreciated

Just park down on Moorhouse ave and wait for an aftershock.

You'll get all the twists and turns you can handle and save heaps on fuel:third:

Kaikoura and back. About 360km round trip and a couple of hours from point A to point B.

Kaikoura then back through the inland route is a amazing ride, as is Arthurs Pass and back.

Up through Culverden, on to Waiau then Kaikoura. Back home down ShitHouse 1, or turn off at Amberley and take the back roads through Rangiora.

Or you could go to Springs Junction or Hanmer for a pie.

...try out beyond Lincoln by the lake...twisty and narrow...a bit of cow shit and the odd farm vehicle...from Southbridge to Motukarara through the ford is a quiet and nice bit of country road...will keep you on your toes and honest...the odd patch of mud and stone left by tractors etc...and no fucking rossi's every ten yards...

...i chose to wear my missus pair of pants today...they are Hein Gericke, cool pants on a hot day...i saw a Grebe on the river on my way out of town...i went to check on the country road bit that i mentioned to the op...it's still there and i didn't see a vehicle on it between Duck Pond Rd and Leeston...i rode there like a nanna and had an epiphaneous, life changing sequence of thoughts...like a smackaroo blurdy, they came from nowhere...my return journey was somewhat the opposite, couldn't wait to get home to see if my next project hasn't rusted out while it's been sitting on it's main stand for a couple of years...it was enjoyable to tootle along on at 80-100k on the way there...it was even more so to try and keep it at 120 open all the way home...rust is not an issue...

Methven via the Rakaia Gorge is a nice ride. Some nice relatively gentle corners in place as well as some nice fast straights and pretty nice scenery. Stop by the Rakaia Gorge bridge to take pics or have a sesh.

you want a good short ride with twisty roads,?? ya cant go past gebbies, lil river and akaroa and back.. apart from that id say kaikoura but there is some boring long straights to do if you go that way.. so fuck that and just do akaroa ;-)
