I'm in need of some trike/trailer gaurds. The main thing is they need to be round, not square. To fit over a 650mm diameter tyre (285 wide, but I can widen a steel gaurd). Where the %@&* do I find such a thing? Or will I have to make it/get it made? Nothing on tard-me. Truck one's are too big. 44 gal drum too small.
Any ideas???

Do they have to be steel? Auckland Drum Company have a range of recycled plastic drums which have large diameter mid sections. I've heard of them being used for guards.

Truck one's are too big. I would have thought someone like TWL would be a good place to start there's a few trailers/b Trains that run low profile 17.5 inch wheels which might be getting close

Do a search for Briford Trailers in Christchurch. he has a range of guards , and can manufacture to your specs, albeit at a price.
Briford Trailers also have the Boss Hoss NZ franchise IIRC.

mmm maybe this link is easier

Haven't checked sizes, but lookie here: http://www.trojan.co.nz/mudguards-c-81_82.html

Edit: looks like they're to suit 560 dia, but I've tweaked them to suit my trailer tyres... which are 680 dia.

TWL, or similar should have smaller sizes. Or you could try a tractor dealer, maybe a couple of fenders from a smaller tractor.:Punk:

Tractor dealer here:bleh:

Not sure what would fit though, maybe there is something off something like a mini kubota, maybe lawnmowers or? When I remember I'll ask my dad, I'm coming up a bit blank.

You can look through this if you want, we stock their stuff. There are a few others but these guys have a shitload if you know what to look up.

You'll find most are either stubby or square or some kinda weird shape though.

Blog? I'm not really a computer person....
I may do a thread on one of the trike sites I've found later tho.
This is sorta where it's at.... (I have done a bit more since these pics...)

Nice work. Pleased to see you using the remote steering with the double triple trees, I have ridden trikes with this , far better than the 'long" bar types. The rear and also is very neat and tidy. Its obvious you have done a heap more research than the average "weld it where it fits" trike builder. Have you ever read the blog "J P TRIKES". An english guy who has build many, worth the read.

Thanks for the comments. For the record it's based on a Honda ST1100, with Subaru Imprezza diff, axles and hubs.
It's for the missus. After her crash she really can't do bikes anymore. It's part of the reason for the double top clamp thing (she's small) but I didn't like how far sideways you have to push the long bars anyway.
I haven't read any stuff on this, just relying on My engineering background, and suspension knowledge. May look into it. (J P Trikes)
Trolling through some of the stuff on the web, there's some shocking stuff out there....

I thought the rear end look familier. A good choice, as there are a range of ratios available which are a simple bolt in exchange. and a cheap LSD diff from a WRX can be used . You rear end set up is nice, but wounder about "body" roll when cornering. I have plans that use the subaru rear end. there is a 50mm limit to the travel to allow for absorbsion of road bumps, but on corners it limits the "roll" . JP trikes has a formula for working out the front king pin inclination, which is very important for the steering geometry. The remote link steering I have seen has always incorporated two bars between the trees, for that situation where failure of one joint is not a possible incident creator. plus there is the possibility of having multiple points on the trees that can alter the effort for turning the trike.small movement for highway riding, long for city, adjustable to suit the rider and conditions. I am interested is what transmission you are using, and that, using a honda bike motor, will it need to be registered as a bike or a car?
