After his TV series "The Boat That Guy Built" Guy Martin said he'd never do another. It starts tonight.

Guy Martin is a truck mechanic, he also races in the British/Irish motor cycle road races: Isle of Man TT, Dundrod etc. He is a real character, to the point John McGuinnes has described him as "eccentric". Always up for a laugh Martin also gets some stick in Britain for being a traitor to his class.

Martin lives with his girlfriend's parents on their farm, but in the barn there is a Limited Edition Aston Martin V12 Vantage that he bought new.

He was one of the featured riders in the TT documentary "Closer To The Edge" which followed his most recent efforts to score his first TT win. Sadly his 2012 attempts ended in a fireball.

Martin, a legendary tea drinker, did a TV programme on restoring an old narrow boat, "The Boat That Guy Built". He has now done another programme looking at unsung heroes of British engineering during which he looks at the history of various engineering projects around Britain.

There is loads of information about Guy Martin on the 'Net but his website is here:

I read an interview that he gave once in which he talks about breaking down on a practice run,in the afternoon on the IOM. It was nice and sunny , and very peaceful, and he had a while to wait for the crew to come pick him up, so he went and sat in the field and had a wank.:Punk::Punk:

I thought the steam train rebuild on last night was absolutely awesome, even if I couldn't understand what he was saying half of the time.
Even just how he made the coal shovel from wrought iron was cool.

Bloody hell! The Anderton Lift has been restored!
In the '80s I travelled around on my cousin's narrowboat and the lift was a rusting derelict. Great to see it back in action!

I was all set for watching this at the folks with them (we're poor) and then one of the kids bloody conspired against me. Thank god for setting up the folks with isky :D I was crossing everything that they would put it up. Watched 5 mins of it now at work, thought I better stop before I get to engrossed.
