I've got to get rid of our old 32" (flat, wide) Philips (Matchline) CRT. It was a top of the range model back in the day, and has a great picture and very very good sound built in.

Of course, it doesn't have freeview or an HDMI interface. (Does have component.)

It's just so nice, I hate the idea of taking it to the dump. So one last chance to see if some crazy wants it.

I'll deliver (you'll have to help carry it from my wagon), and you can have it for free. (Nobody pays for old TV's, and proper disposal of a TV costs money, so I still come out ahead, I think).

Maybe I'm nuts even asking this, but this is the "rant or rave" section, so what the heck ...

(Just being first to say "yes" doesn't mean you'll be the crazy who gets it. Though I'd be surprised if two people do say "yes"...)

Edit so as not to bump and look like I'm abusing KB by pretending it's TardMe: I suppose I could also mention I've got two computer desks to get rid of too. Very used, but still usable. L shape, 1500 mm x 1500 mm, with shelves on one side and a slide out keyboard tray. Not free, but I'll deliver. No idea what they're worth, if anything.

Sure. I'll even deliver to the Hutt. Have a think. Anything you want to know?

I'll be on the way to the dump in a coupla days.

(I also have an old Hyundai 24" non-wide TV to get rid of, but I'm not offering that because anyone who wants it is not someone I want to meet.)

Don't take it to the tip, at least take it to the charity shop, you won't even have to pay to get rid of it!

You've obviously not been in many then!

Theres a place in Whakatiki St in Upper Hutt, near the River Road intersection - they are doing major dismantling of TVs fridges, and other old appliances. RCN i think the place is called. Some pretty reasonable looking stuff ends up there, too.

When I was renovating my old house for sale, I took a very nice window - Rimu frame, security glass etc along with me with a load to the tip.

I tried to give it to the recycling place (TrashPalace, Porirua) but as soon as they saw it, it was "no windows!".

They had windows, but many more are got rid of than other people want.

(In the circumstances (time etc) I just dumped it, but have always regretted not making an effort to keep the Rimu. My old house was full of Rimu, used for stupid things.)

I also remember trying to give our old couches to the Sallies. Now, these were couches that we were sitting on ourselves just the day before. But when the guy saw them he was a little upset and claimed to be taking them away as a favour or something. Apparently stuff I use myself, sometimes isn't good enough for charity. (There was a time we only had a few cushions in the lounge to sit on. Nowdays people seem to need more.)

So, I'd imagine a charity shop might have TV's in it, but that doesn't necessarily mean they want more of them.

Still, it wouldn't hurt to ring. I can always ask.
