Hey all,
Going to Melbourne for a little holiday in early Feb, so the slightly better half can see friends and family.
Interested in hiring a bike for a day and exploring the country side, and figured what better option, than to have a big fat cumfy harley so the missus doesnt complain of a sore ass (Take that how you will).
Looked at the hire sites, and they seem to quote about $300+ Australian, for the day. That seem right? Seems a little steep.
also I assume no dramas with a kiwi license?
Anyone done similar?
Or even better, lives in Melbourne, and has a Harley they want me to ride for a day.

Check also, what they want from your credit card re insurance excess, extra costs etc. That might give you a shock.

Cost me $100 a day in the US with full insurance so your $300 seems a tad steep...

Get hold of Garners at garnersmotorcycles.com.au. A great company to deal with who have one of most things available for hire.

Just gave garner a ring. $2500 bond, $309 per day for the cheapest harley, + gear hire, all in Aussie $.
Decided Ill probably go for a 600cc hornet, $165 per day, about $1500 bond.
So many reasons to hate Harleys.

Do you know what other bikes they have for hire? I'll be over there in August.
edit: never mind I just read the thread. Here's a link http://garnersmotorcycles.com.au/road_bikes.htm

They are very much a niche bike .
Must be a big niche. They are often the top selling 'big bike' brand.
It really does depend on 'which' Harley. I rode an XR1200X along the Great Ocean Road and it was excellent. The Fat Boy low ran out of clearance.
The touring chassis bikes were very good. The Wide Glide was nice too.
The Mrs will love a 600 Hornet fo sho....or not. :-)

The only one you've got is you can't afford it. Like most haters.

So..lemme get this straight; 'somebody' with a Harley charges more than you think it is worth to hire.
And in retort you hate that brand of bike?
Way to go!!!!

I understand if the vehicle is worth more, it will cost more to hire. But The cost is outrageous for Harleys. To be fair, I dont hate Harleys, they just dont appeal to me, apart from the fact they would make for a novel experience cruising through open roads.
To put it in perspective, I can hire a $50k sporty BMW for significantly less than $300AU per day, and their cheapest Carby Harley is $315AU odd per day. In Auckland you can hire a 250cc bike for about $50NZ per day, in Australia it is $165AU.
Anyone else think that is a little ridiculous?
