Yamaha CS3 - thoughts?

Anyone know much about these? If you're reading this you've probably seen the listing on trademe.

I was hoping for a honda cb77, cb350 or cb550, but they seem to attract a lot of attention and bidders so i thought this might be adequate?
Nice little run about for the weekends and occasional ride to work..Probably lack balls down low until you hit the power band. which isn't really my style, but hey.

Also looked at that suzuki T200 on trademe but 4k is too much imo. Nice bike though..

Parts probably rare for the cs3 and t200 though.

Been almost half a year looking for a classic to buy..

When we were teenagers my best mate had a CS2 (the 180cc version). Nice bike and bloody easy to work on. I looked at that CS3 myself but needed something I could gaurantee reliability of.

So you actually saw the CS3 in Rotorua? What was it like? Would be good if you could give more details as i'm pretty keen on it but don't have the opportunity to inspect myself.
Seems like it might have had a few issues as its had a rebore..

Oops mis understanding, saw it on trade me, it's a bit far away for me to look at personally. I was looking for a project myself but needed to buy a new bike for day to day use (blew my commuter up early december) so didn't bother pursuing it however some one around Rotorua could probably check it out for you.

Knew the 180cc and 200cc when I was a lad. The 200 had an electric foot, not sure if the 180 did. for a 200cc they were rockets, noticeably quicker than a GT185 suzook. I can only remember one instance of a seizure of any I knew... think the oil pump cable snapped?? Like most small cc learner bikes they were thrashed without mercy and took it well. If spares are available? I'd go for it over the GT185/T200.. although the X5 200cc Suzook isnt a bad option either.

Ok gotcha. Contacted the seller and sounds like its in top shape mechanically. Cosmetically a few minor issues but I wouldn't hold them against it.

Just bought a YB125e yesterday off trademe. Doesn't run though but cheap and is local so can pickup - probably next week.

No, well yes, like Yamaha, the RD series were an evolution from the YDS series, evolution from the CS etc, etc...
The T200 was also called the Invader if my failing memory serves correct. BUT as has been found European models and names have differed from what you saw here,,, the Hustler (was also a T250) T250 was also a super 6... Then the GT series with 'ram air'.. and probably the last 'direct' in lineage was the GT250a ... X7 250 was the last Suzook air cooled, it's little brother was the X5 200cc. probably in reality the porting etc is still in a lineage from the T series.....

Yea i've heard of it being called the Invader. But i was sure the 250cc Hustler was called T20 instead of logically being the T250...
Anyway, not that it really matters!

Picked it up last night with the help of a mate with a ute.
Fiddled around a bit but haven't got it started yet. Compression ok, spark ok but sparkplug is dry so its probably a stuck carb. Will clean it out next opportunity.
Anyone know how to identify the year based on the frame number? A7 XXXXXX stamped on the headstock...

Pop down to your local Yamaha dealer with the frame number and they'll be able to tell you the year of manufacture it's all on their dealer net.
I pretty sure the YB100\125 is still for sale in India.

Yea i've heard the YB was/is still in production. Mine is made in Japan, so i guess that at least limits it to '80's era.
