Has anyone else had the Devonport Invasion email? A bike meet, twice a month at the Esplanade Hotel Bar "like it was Brighton Beach" to invade Devonport waterfront. So on the hottest weekend of this summer, yesterday, I thought I'd give it a go. What went wrong? Six bikes is hardly an invasion. Browns Bay has more bikes outside Speakers Corner on a wet winter's day, and it's a better ride - Lake Rd sucks.

Devonport is a shithole. We should have rented it to the french for conducting their nuclear tests.

Yep got the email - assumed it came from the Bikes, blues and BBq thingy they do each year. Been last couple of years and its a pretty good event

Anyone know any decent bikers pubs with a decent ride to them ? Puhoi is still worth a ride, the Riverhead is very quiet since it was done up and the Kokop never has a bike outside anymore.

Having had the displeasure of working in Devonport for eight years, the Banana Republic is light years ahead.

What Murray said, Okoroire on a Sunday at lunchtime.

Or the cafe/bar at Ti Hoi on the western access about 20 km south of Whakamaru. Not many bikes unless you strike a group of bikers meeting there, but a decent ride south of Litchfield (turn west at the Fonterra factory then left immediately over the rail lines then down through the forest west of Tokoroa)

Then there's the pub at Te Poi east of Matamata, is it the "Big Cow" - bit of a booze barn for the local bikers though.

Brownies, 6 km east of Katikati on SH2, to get there you have to go through the Karangahake Gorge or the Old Tauranga Rd. You could even head south of Auckland out through Miranda.

There's almost always bikes outside the KKK when I go past on weekend jaunts up 16. I stopped there myself for the first time just the other week & watched a mufti pull over a chick on a Ducati whilst enjoying a rather scrumptious, yet reasonably-priced toasted sandwich from out in the garden.

I thought the food was a bit limited and rather pricey at the Puhoi. Good for a laugh though :innocent:

umm..........i went to all three pubs you mention on sunday...........the riverhead was busy as,heaps of hot rods and a dozen or more bikes,a blues band plays there on sundays from two,the cowcop was not as busy but still a handfull of bikes outside, and unless you take the back way through waiwera and over johnstones hill i reckon the ride to the puhoi is shit........i do enough miles on the stinkin m/way during the week thanks......the puhoi was not as busy as usual but they did have a big day on saturday with the woodchop comp.......just saying
