View Full Version : A new way to search TradeMe

I was sick of the way TradeMe searches for motorbikes so I decided to improve it (hopefully).
You can now input the exact engine sizes you want to search for. Helpful because some people list actual CC e.g 599 instead of 600.
You can filter by multiple manufacturers and bike types.
You will need a modern browser to use the site (IE8 and above). Won't look good on low resolution monitors (anything above 1024*768 should be fine). All filtering is done by your computer so if its slow then narrow the search options so it doesn't have to filter so many bikes!
Still very much a work in progress so some things may not work as expected - such as ordering by price when there are bikes over $10,000.
Any issues or suggestions let me know

Mate, you're a genius. Makes one of my favorite hobbies of bike shopping on trademe 1000000x better.
Brilliant and well done.:Punk:

Cool.
I get sick of searching for parts on a specific model, only to be bombarded with other crap due to excessive "key words." Asked Trademe to create a user blacklist (or modify current blacklist), so you'd no longer have to view a certain sellers auctions. They are looking at my suggestion.

Brillant work there chap.
One suggestion that I have put to trsde me (but got the generic responce), was to do with the regions options.
You can choose one region to search in but why cant you choose a region (or two ) to ignore. I live in the lower north island and am not interested in looking or visting bikes in Auckland (for example). Being able to narrow your search down regionally would be great and save alot of downward scrolling. I know you could choose one region at a time but its all about user friendly and ease of use nowadays. Aint it?
But what youve done is awesome, already had a play. Being able to search 599 - 650cc for instance is brillant.

The only problem is my PC seems to have shat itself after I made this thread last night so updates may be delayed for awhile :(

+1 for the region thing, maybe select between local only, nearest neighbor regions (maybe second closest too?), or national.

Awesome, bookmarked.
A request: filtering by type to allow for more than one type. For example, I'd like to show all except Quad/ATV.

You can already do that. Just check the boxes. You can search for sports or tourers or cruisers all at the same time. Just check as many boxes as you feel necessary!

Far canal. I don't know if I'm happy it's there or sad I was such a shabby user! It's both.

That is just brilliant. :woohoo: Thank you very much
I just wish there was something we (you :) ) could do about searching for bike gear in a size or size range or something. But I don't think that is possible as it doesn't look like there is a standardised input field for that when you sell gear.

As above, good shit. :niceone:
Would it take much to be able to filter by latest listings? That's always important when you're spending too much time on TardeMe.

Would it take much to be able to filter by latest listings? That's always important when you're spending too much time on TardeMe.Do you mean order by the latest? So either newest -> oldest or oldest -> newest or do you mean filter the search to only include listings created after a certain date?

Sweet.
Also, I've noticed that there are some expired listings coming up in the searches. It seems to just be those that finished earlier today, not yesterday or earlier.

Newest to oldest.
This is now done. You can now order by either the start date or the end date of the listing.
Sweet.

It seems to just be those that finished earlier today, not yesterday or earlier. If you could let me know what auctions are expired that still show I can see what is going on. The search results comes directly from TradeMe and should be exactly the same as if you searched for the same criteria on TradeMe. If expired listings come up in TradeMe searches then they will come up on my site.

This one (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=550258649) came up in your search, but it isn't any more. So did this one (http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/sports/auction-552478926.htm), but now it's been replaced by this (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=554809274) newer listing.
There were a few others that I didn't click on (not in my history) but I can't find any showing up in your search currently.

I can't find any showing up in your search currently.
In fact, it's a lot easier to check now as you can search by end date, the earliest closing date is in the future like it should be.
Dunno what was going on before but I don't think I was imagining it.

It's not so much about buying 'this year'. It's about keeping current on what the market is doing.

Just been trying to use this from work with IE8 and the page draws very badly and search returns no results. Of course, it may just be our build and/or network. Should it still be working OK?
Cheers.

Cheers.Sorry haven't touched it since I posted. From memory this did not work on IE as it did not like cross domain requests (hence the no search results).
I did end up getting a job partly thanks to this but sadly this means I spend all day writing code and don't feel like doing it when I get home. There are a lot of things to fix but it does still sort of work on firefox and chrome. I say sort of because there are bikes that should be returned in the search that aren't.

All good, it was a nice wee bit of work so I'll give it a crack from home later.
And thanks for the quick reply.
