Well I wonder how many others here have been over towards Castle Point during the long weekend?
I was enjoying a really pleasant ride, and was looking forward to a stop there. WTF? Those roadworks are 'lethal' in a broad sense. About 1-1.5 k back there is a gravel warning board, then just at the top of a slight brow an 'extreme slippery' board. Extreme slippery? Doesn't really come into it,,, as you crest the slight brow you are looking at a short section of uneven, rough, and some loose stuff then into what is really a 'catastrophe' waiting to happen... deep loose large 'base coarse' the full side of the carriageway going towards Castle Point, and a semi decent? surface coming the other direction.... That was one of those times had I known about the works, the 'Point' would have been put aside for Riverstone..
have others been up there? Was the signage better than I described before the weekend?

If it is that bad I'd recommend ringing the council or NZTA to complain and getting it fixed before someone arses off. Actually, on a weekend I'd ring the contractor direct, they have 24 hour phones.

Yeah rode through it yesterday as well. Was out that way 3 weeks ago on the bike and it wasn't so bad.

That slip damage section has been that way for ages. Slowest road repair job in history. But it is well signed posted and only lasts 200m or so.

Did it again yesterday and as you say the large loose stones on the outward trip were a shocker. The other 3 bikes in our group went straight to the 'other' side of the road, entertained watching me tackle the rough gravel. It was hard keeping a bike upright, so I joined them on the wrong side of the road- no onward traffic coming so we got a lucky break.

The rest of the Castlepoint road is awesome though at present. The Tinui pub is much better these days with good food.

Went through in the car on Sat night and back though on sun morning. Bit bumpy going in but shouldn't be a problem on any bike, I've ridden though a lot worse than that.
Plenty well signposted unless your on a bit of a mission? :)

This pic taken few months back when I was passenger but same signs both side when driving though other day.

Rode through there a couple of weeks back. It's only a few hundred metres long and no great drama at all.

Also it's on the road to Castlepoint and the other place the OP mentioned (presumably on the Wairarapa coast) I suspect is Riversdale.
