Hey KB,
Im looking to buy a baby Monster as I am still on my learners.
does anyone have any expierence on the little Duke (400cc)?
Are they strong enough for a weighty rider - 100kgs?
any advice would be appreciated.

Hi,
I do not recommend 400cc. It is worst Monster you can ever get. Read ducati forums(ducati.ms, ducatimonster.org). On your learners you can have 600 and 620 models which are much more better.
I'm currently selling fully serviced M600 Dark (http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/sports/auction-554469191.htm) and will make a good discount for kiwibiker forum user.
If in short:
1. It was created for Japan only because of their limits.
2. Too weak engine for the frame. You open throttle and... it slooowly goes faster. This is very dangerous in traffic. When in case of emergency you need to go faster right now to avoid car.
3. Weaker brakes as it has smaller engine.
4. Very hard to control if RPM is less then 4,5k. More clutch involved - > less clutch plates life.
5. It's hard to go faster then 110km/h. As per replies 140 is almost top.
6. U will be bored driving it after 2-3 months. :)
7. 250cc bikes will go faster.
Pros(for 400, 600, 620, 750):
1. Wet clutch
2. Air cooling
3. For 400 and 600 cheaper rego.
If you are strict for 400cc I would recommend:
Honda NC35(RVF400RR)
Suzuki GSX-R 400 (90 MY and further)
Honda NC30(VFR400RR)
Suzuki GSF400
Honda CBR400RR (MY88 and further)
Yamaha FZR400(88 MY and further)
Ducati are almost perfect bikes but not the 400. This model was born by sellers :(

Nice Dark!!!
Thanks for the offer but you are around 2 grand above my budget so I will have to pass on that. :crybaby:
Although you have given me a bike to add to the wishlist. :Punk:
And also cheers for the advice.
