Always handy when :Police::Police::Police:'s are around but can be a bugger if it gets stuck "on" in town...

No prizes for guessing how I know it's on. Some days y're lucky to cross town in one piece...today being one such

We do not have the traffic down here like a lot of people experience in other centers, but I still like to move my bike around my lane when travelling around town, my theory is that it makes me more visible.:Punk:

I have a theory too. Unfortunately (for some) it prolly isn't what they want to hear.

Not what you want to hear ...

I've seen the traffic in Gore .. shallow gene pool children in cars (listening to kuntry krap) thinking they can be boy racers .. I'll take traffic over the hill in the tron any day ..

Or another way is to have an extra pie everyday, pretty soon you'll be VERY visible!

I don't have one of those.

I do have a genius switch, coincidentally it too is stuck in the ON position.

There is no hour, period.
It has been scientifically proven that time stopped in Gore in 1976.

Oh all right then...

Talking about 'experienced' riders here. Not ones who are in the early phases of learning the black art.

There are some who have lots of near misses etc and there are some who have very few problems with other motorists.
Given that both sorts have 'years of riding under their belts' - why is it that rider A has problems with being seen and rider B doesn't?
That is the question. BUT it is not the right question. Because it is much more likely that rider A has not learned roadcraft for motorcycles and rider B has.

For instance - we've all seen rider A's pootling along in the left wheeltrack. The rider is doing nothing wrong legally, but from his safety point of view...
the reality is that he was just begging to be lanesplit by some arsehole cager and then he'll come on here, moaning about near misses....

Tis true, have nearly not seen a couple of bikes myself when in the car, even though they had headlights on. Both times they were well left in the lane too. What prompted my theory was not seeing one biker at all, and then he must of hit a slight bump in the road or something and the movement of the headlight grabbed my attention.:weird:

Only had 2 near misses with cars in 30+ years of riding.:Punk:

Just to clarify...
Being in the left wheeltrack is sometimes the CORRECT place to be. The trick is to know when, and when not to...amongst other things. Often problems have nothing to do with not being seen. Which was my point before.

Yeah .. I think you are right .. Road craft is a biggie ... goes with Road awareness ...

Like the fuckwit who passed me this morning ... I came blasting round the harbour to work with a bike behind me .. (at first I thought it was a Street Triple that wanted to have fun ... but it was a big Suzie Chook Chaser) I was having fun ... sitting qround 130-140 ... but leaving him a little behind ... got to the road works ... I slowed down to something like the required speed ... and he went passed me ... at more than 40klicks above the posted limit ... in a heavily patrolled area ... (if caught he would have been walking) ... then pulled out to pass a car on double yellow lines on a blind left-hand corner ... (at that point I let him get as far away from me as possible ...)

He appeared to be a good competent rider ... but a disaster on wheels about to happen ..

I don't often have problems with not being seen or near misses with other vehicles. Today was just one of those days when drivers were pushing it a bit and ignoring, rather than not seeing. I just happened to see a bunch of them on one day - which is bound to happen in any distribution curve given enough time on the road. The invisibility function is purely poetic licence - as I am sure everyone reading this thread would know...

I think the last fella that rode a horse in gore, got thrown a slab of hay into his cell the next morning, and told by the sarge " if its good enough for your girlfriend, it,s good enough for you".:shifty:

People are always riding horses through Opotiki ... the front page pic of last night's Opotiki News was of four teenage girls on their horses in town ..
