View Full Version : Drinking too much wine makes you do funny things

Camping over summer is something of a passion for me, I love the kick back, chill out way of it. I am a wine drinker, when camping I tend to indulge in a rather larger way than normal

Usually, I can make my way to bed without misshap, though I have been known to wobble of leg ocasionally

Imagine me, in pissed as a chook mode ( I know, not something that happens very often :innocent:) having a meaningful conversation with some healthy, get fit crazy, lovely people we camp with, when they offered me to join them on their latex/lycra clad bike ride the next morning

I agreed  Only 24kms on the flat, piece of wees :Punk:

Comes morning (oh, I agreed to do this at 7:30, only woke up at 7:15) I get up and yepper I am all go.

Go to their caravan, get kitted out in the jelly pants  and other assorted glow in the dark shit, that does nothing for your comfort, I might add, and off we go!

Route changed apparently, now we only have to do 12 kms, but half of it is up friggen hill. Far canal! What a joke, I dont have the wind for that. Anyway, the ride ended up with 4 kms along the beach from Uretiti to Ruakaka with a decent breeze

OMG! The hill climb nearly killed me, it also nearly killed the poor bastard that had hold of my jelly pants arse, and helped me peddle up that poxy hill :innocent:

The bruised soft bits from the very unforgiving seat (I will never, ever complain of a sore arse on a motorbike again) made it "interesting" to get in and out of the car for a few days, fortunately we had kids with us, so the other was already off the menu :bye:

I actually liked the flat ride on the beach, hated the seat, hated the hill, hated the friggen trucks that race past you at 100 kph when you are on SH1. I said to my friends they could keep that biking bullshit, it is so slow, it is actually dangerous!

Blessings to all you lycra wearing idiots on here, you are mental!

PS: Maha laughed...

When I was all kitted out, I ran down to get Maha to have a grope of the jelly pants. His reaction ( and he had a good grope) was luke warm to say the least. Mind he may have been scared I was going to ask him along :bleh:

I had 4 kms of level ride to recover, and yepper that was directly after the ride, thankfully I am a bit fit (walking fit) not uphill hard out fit. There are thankfully no pics of me about to expire on the poxy hill :killingme

We have a few good cycle trails down here now. Come down and try them out. The Central Otago Rail Trail has easy gradients ... and only 150 km's start to finish. Two days with effort. Three with ease.

I decline the invite, with regret of course. There is not a snowballs chance in hell of me taking that up as a way to maintain fitness. I dont want callouses on my lower pelvic area, in fact, forget the callouses, I dont ever want to be bruised like that. I managed to catch my right buttock on the poxy seat of that evil machine, and coped a decent bruise as a result. Give me a 2 wheeled engine powered bike every time!

Then bring your engine powered one down then ... if you must ... bring Maha too ..

I'll take you on a ride past the rail trail ... so you can point and laugh at them ... :killingme

Which end you starting at ???

Probably the best time of year to do it. Not too hot ... OR cold. Two or three day (or more) ???

The begining end? :msn-wink:

The end of the Rainbow is Alexandra. Sadly the rail trail neither starts or end here.

The start to the trail is always at the beginning ... The end arrives ... eventually.

But the beginning can be wherever you want to start. It's not one way ... Just seems uphill a lot though ..

Yep, don't quite understand roadies. I ride bikes, but only in the mountains. And it's usually with cool people, no lycra allowed

I do both, and I've met some very cool people on the road.

But anyway, "jelly pants"

I'm impressed!!! I've only just gotten back on a pushbike (mine is old '70s retro styles) after nearly 30 years; last time I rode a bicycle I was still at school...

Nearly killed me the first time out - just riding a couple of km's around 'Rewa on mostly flat road. Thankfully I'm enjoying it and my fitness is slowly starting to build up, but I keep telling Balu (a keen cyclists) "small steps, small steps". For me it's about finding something to do with getting fit, losing weight, and being mobile that I actually find fun. My son said to me "let's face it mum, you just hate exercise". Damn the honesty of ya kids!

Ah well, back to the OP - you do look great! (and you have enviable legs...)

Team Wiggle

I can understand that :innocent: I hope road users treat them well.

Though, still don't quite understand men in full lycra on casual rides. No-one wants to see you stuff your boiled saveloy into your shammy, parade it around town in summer until it all looks like a tripe taco. Have some decency.

What about men in full lycra attending a 5/10km fun run/walk?

We did a 10km walk not so long ago and there was this guy in a full lycra suit  doing all sorts of warm up excercises. High step jogging you name it, he was really SERIOUS! They let the runners go first, and then us walkers were let loose :sweatdrop

I am not sure how far down the beach we got before the first runners were coming back to meet us. I fully expected to see lycra guy waaaaaaaaaaaaaay out front, but no, it was a couple of young boys running in jandels, followed by a very fit looking old man wearing a coast to coast singlet, a really serious runner. Lots of others followed before we caught sight of lycra man again
