Ok, so I made this table out of an old pallet that I got from our local RD1 store, and am thinking of maybe selling a couple or three. I know nothing about what people would be willing to pay for stuff like this, wifey says they would sell well, but what would she know.:shifty: So if anyone out there knows anything about garden furniture please feel free to opinionate, all thoughts and opinions treated with the upmost respect.:laugh::Punk:

PS. If it looks like shit, please feel free to say so, I,m a big boy.:msn-wink:

'fraid I can't help you with price, but it's a damn good piece of work I reckon!

What's the cost of materials and time spent?

Cheers.:Punk: I have had a look at some of the garden furniture in places like miter 10, fuck that stuff is expensive, and boring as fuck too. IMO.

I don't see why you couldn't get $40-50 for it. It's a pretty neat little table.

Fuck - I'd pay that much for it ... I won't pay more than $100 for garden furniture .. and I thought Unstuck's table was out of my price range ...

I made a toy train once out of old NZ native timber off cuts which I thought was ok, we had a garage sale and a lady saw it and offered me $300 for it. It was not even part of the sale, but I sold it anyway.:devil2:

Barbeque tables are very expensive to buy, and expensive to make too, if you have to buy the timber. We were looking at buying a chook house a while back, and I was shocked at the price of the things, ended up building my own, way cooler than any that I saw advertised, and it only cost about $10 bucks for some hinges. It even has a mirror in it to keep the chookys amused.

Good looking table... I'm sure you'd get more than $100 ... maybe more like $250 to 'right' person.

Just a suggestion... maybe drill a hole in the centre for an umbrella...

Paul.

Dunno if it would support the weight of an umbrella, it is only 700 wide at the top and the legs are only 450 apart. :niceone:

I reckon it would probably fetch 2-300.. but I would suggest running it as an auction with 150 reserve.. and then what ever it goes for, add 50 and there's a starting figure for a buy now..

make you you advertise it has "recycled timber garden table" - might get a few more interested..

Dunno about 2-300, but kitset pine cape cod chairs are about $150 so I reckon that's a good place you've picked for the reserve.

well.. I figured you never know... but 150 seemed a good start

being "recycled" might attract a buyer with some extra disposable cash.. if you know what I mean ...

I was selling dog kennels made from oak wine barrels, sanded, oiled, proper base for the barrel to lie on. A lot of work went into cutting & finishing, more than I anticipated. Any hoo. I had no bites on trade me just lots of views but I managed to sell 5 out of a shop for an average of $200.
I got the impression that actually being able to see & touch stuff like this goes a long way to selling it.
Figure out the least you will sell it for, $100 - $150 maybe, not sure what price you put on your time & go from their. My thoughts on trade me are freight is prohibitive & their is an element of "I could do that" even if they would never get around to it which inhibits the price. If you can find somewhere to display it I think you would get a better price from a spur of the moment buyer, local garden centre perhaps? That is what happened with the kennels.

Couple of bucks worth of screws and maybe 3hrs labour.:woohoo:

Using an unskilled charge out rate of $60 per hour Your reserve price should be greater than $182. I'd list it at a starting bid of $180 and a buy now price of $240.

That charge out rate not only covers the 3 hrs labour, but the wear and tear on tools, power, overheads etc. Any price less than this and there would be no profit in it for you at all.

If its just a little side earner, start putting them up on trademe and see what they go for, will let you know what the market will pay.

The pay part is pretty important, a lot of broader market surveys fail to address the fact that if you are not surveying the correct market, the prices you get are what people think other people might pay, not what the people would pay themselves. If you want to get into it a bit more, you'd be best off to identify the specific target market demographics, and survey them not only about what they would pay for that, but more importantly, what else they want and would pay for.

Good point re the shipping as well. It's not a tiny object and probably reasonably heavy...

Do you live on a main road (ok ok, I know Gore doesn't really have one) but if people were able to touch and see as mentioned, even drive by, I'm sure there will be plenty of women ordering their guys to stop, so they could have a look

nah bro, that's pretty stiley, there's be heaps of retarded aucklanders willing to pay probably 200$ for something like that, just take them down (up?) to the matakana "farmers" market, but make sure there's no too-rough edges, because that's not chic, and might scratch their SUVs.

anywhere else in the country you'd probably fetch 80$ at least.
