View Full Version : Inconsiderate driver on the tuckers

Why is it that a BP tanker, truck and trailer unit, can pull over regularly enough to have no more than 2-4 vehicles behind him but lady in suzuki swift has 15ish and can't/won't pull over

Heh. Don't you love em, dawdling along, King of the road, not a shit being given that day in a little world of their own.
If I'm in the van I feel thankful that they are saving me petrol, if I'm on the bike I like to see the little swerve they do when I overtake much to their surprise & chagrin.

The 'takas are double yellow lines the whole way over and there are no overtaking lanes on the downward legs. There are literally tens of spots bikes can safely overtake slow vehicles, but there has been an increased police presence frowning on the practice.
It isn't worth getting worked up over, but I do wish I could shoot flaming balls of hatred up their exhaust pipes. These are usually the people who claim they've never hurt anyone, never deliberately caused anyone else harm, but are incapable of performing simple courtesies during the course of their day as they are firm believers in people taking responsibility for their own issues. Those people timidly driving over a short stretch of twisty road are responsible for run away consumerism, the excesses of capitalism and the wholesale acceptance of vegetarianism as a norm instead of the vile heresy it is.
Burn them. Burn their progeny. Burn their houses, their clothes, their potted perennials and their reusable hessian shopping bags.

He wasn't complaining about them, he was wondering why B trains, artics, and a tanker with a trailer can park in an overtaking bay on the 'takas, but some overdressed bint on a mission to buy a new handbag from Adore in Greytown, in a Suzuki Swift, is incapable of doing the same and then claims there was nowhere to stop when asked.
I've had truckies wedge themselves into impossible places and pull way over to the left so I don't have to cross the double yellows to get by. 99% of truckies are considerate road users. 99% of people in and on other vehicles are the cunts you speak of.

50% of these people think the people behind them ought to just "be patient", and think they are just "being safe" (and others are "being unsafe" for passing).
(see: letters to the editor of the Dominion).
The other 50% of these people are not even aware of the cue of frustrated drivers behind them.
(see: the shock I once saw on the face of the lady behind me, who seemed to be trying to pass me as I drove onto the shoulder, when she finally noticed the ambulance up her arse.)
(80% of statistics are made up.)
I do find fewer trucks piss me off than cars. And trucks can't help the speeds they are legally limited to.
McFatty1000
2nd February 2013, 10:57
Its because truckers often realise that there are other road users that may be faster than themselves, where as the "I don't need to go 100kmph, so therefore everyone else doesn't need to either" brigade (Trust me, this is often their logic), or "I'm not in a rush, but its rude for you to pass me" think that because thats the speed I feel 'safe' at, than all other road users are dangerous at higher speeds (Again, these are real debates I've had with people)
Also, forward tunnel vision - those that don't even realise they should look behind themselves

I was following a people mover down there on the wairarapa side a few weeks ago, every time we approached one of the "safe for bikes to overtake" areas he would veer over into the oncoming lane a little. At first I thought he was drunk or something and kept back to avoid the inevitable crash. When I realised he was just an arsehole I overtook where there was a passing lane on the other side, when I looked in my mirror he was completely in the other lane having veered out as I went past to try and stop me! Looked to be about 60 ish with a vehicle full of people... Must really hate to be overtaken I guess?
On the same day I had multiple people pull over to allow me to pass often older people with big smiles on their faces as I went past. Glad the good ones outnumber the dicks!

Last ANZAC day I received an inquiry as to what velocity I travelled about the countryside on the bike.
I answered his question honestly. He looked incredulous for a while, then said, "I would block you."
My answer contained just two words, the customary advice regarding sex and travel.
In most instances a bike would be gone before he was even aware of its presence.
Sadly there's probably more like him out there so take care.

It's because the Swift driver feels that they own all the roads in NZ, and that they are doing everyone else a favour by allowing them to use the road that they own.

Returning from Rotten Rua to Dorkland last night, 10pmish, got to Pateatonga, had had a good 105 cruise controlled trip so far passed maybe 10 cars in either direction until then.
Caught up to a group of 5 vehicles ahead. One directly in front of me was a Police patrol car(Marked)
The 4 in front of the Police car were all newish vehicles, they were traveling at an average speed of 60 K's ( I said average speed, sometimes as low as 35 kph and other times as HIGH as 85ish)
I switched off the cruise control and pulled back from the patrol car so as to allow them room to deal with the fucktards ahead.
Well, seems the Police officer driving that car was quite happy to travel on 100KPH open roads at the speed of the lowest common denominator, the fuckwit in the front car averaging 60 kph.
Even the wife sitting beside me was getting pissed with them all!.
After traveling behind this circus for some ten K's I closed up to within about 60 m's of the Police car and turned on my hazard lights, long enough that I know they'd seen them.
I don't know, just thought they might get the idea that the mounting number of cars who'd caught up with them and the slow cars in front might have triggered some instinct in them to do the appropriate thing and get the dangerously slow, totally incompetent, (breaking for almost every corner, where it was totally unnecessary to do so) incapable drivers in front of them off the road before one of them overexerted their capabilities and crashed.
Butt No, they stayed behind this joke of an open road convoy for yet another 10 odd K's.
Made no attempt to call proceedings to a halt and allow the traffic to return to semi normal road speeds.
Could not believe that this Police officer allowed this to continue for so long.
They turned off finally and the whole four offending vehicles continued to travel at the same pace.
I waited for the passing lane and overtook the lot of em ( on the horn the whole way past all four of em, as were the people following me) never once having to exceed the posted speed limit, you know the "safer speed area" or even having to use the approaching double yellows.
Set the CC and continued on home.
The joke was that the last one I passed a small hatch thing, speeded up to my speed and tailed me for about 1 K, so close that I could not see their headlights in my rear view.
Left them there, did not hit the brakes or anything else, they must have realised they were traveling at nearly the sound barrier ( 100kph) and pulled back to their safer speed of approx 60kph.
It is my personal opinion that the Police officer should have recognised this situation for what it was and done something about it, they didn't, this is what upsets me and many others who like me drive/ride everyday and see these wankers in their new shiny little toys driving at their safe speed.
They! do cause other drivers to do stupid shit and most often they never even see it happening because it happens behind them and they patently don't look in that funny thing on the windscreen.
If people can't or won't travel at a legal and safe speed on open roads they should be removed from them asap.
This is becoming a much bigger problem and the Police themselves have publicly stated that these sort of drivers are dangerous in the extreme and when recognised they'd be pulled over ticketed and if necessary removed from the roads.
WHEN ffs.

I refer to them as the "Suzuki Not-Very" because "swift" in the name is really false advertising.
A car dealer I spoke with said that if the front gets damaged then it costs $7k to replace the front bumper. Insurance companies just write off the vehicle instead.

Meh.
You'll survive. If you're expecting to ride a road like the 'Takas and not get a huge line of traffic, you better reconsider the situation.
Lovely road, too many people, too many incompetent drivers, and riders (I've met some proper didlleheads on there), so I don't even bother with it anymore. Plus the 600 never gets time to wind up on it.

That will simply be because they didn't know you were there, and they shit themselves when you went past and you could only have been speeding to be overtake such a superb driver as the pilot of the almost stationary vehicle. The *555 was simply to justify their fright or flight reaction as being the correct one instead of being an averagely good driver and knowing what is going on behind them as well as in front.
Or something.
They may simply have been National Party voters.

its because nz has a crap or non existent public transport system
in most countries the incompetent/decrepid/demented/dangerous drivers would have their licence taken away and left to the buses trains and taxis
as the judges fully realise that is not an option for many drivers in many parts of the country they are left on the road to kill/maim/inconvenience every other poor bastard

Over the holidays I overtook, in a truck n trailer tanker unit, an old fella towing something like a foldout caravan thingee...he was doing 75-80 on the motorway and so I just cruised past doing 90 clicks. Same geezer dawdles into the servo I'd just delivered my load at, and he comes over for a quiet word about my speed. He seemed surprised that the 80 kmh limit for trailers had been amended years ago to 90 kmh...changed his tone somewhat
I wonder if he started driving closer to 90 after this discussion
