Hi all, I just purchased this yesterday and I go to pick it up Wednesday. I am pretty happy to get back to ridding after many many years away.
I grew up riding in the states but after moving here 13 years ago I have not ridden. I got the bug again a year or so ago and now I am back.
I am looking forward to making new friends and going for some epic rides.
This little beasty needs some work but I dont think too too much, tune up and a little TLC.

going to need to do fork seals I think though. this bike has been sitting a while I am sure they are dry and brittle

Big tip is look out for wind I got blown all over the place today on the way in esp just after your area.
Had to drop my speed a few times and try stay in my lane
However from memory I think you said you have alittle bit more weight behind you so should be more stable.
p.s I had a full tank as well

Just keep strolling along in wind, relax your grip on the bars and focus on where you want to go further up the road. If you panic, you go splat.
I've been in some fucked up wind on some shit bikes and never really had any issues

Ive found relaxing and moving my body alittle with it while keeping in the right direction helps
However wellington has two kinds of wind
The wind that tickles you and is annoying but is manageable
And the wind that wants to kill you which is a workout in itself to keep upright
maybe im doing it wrong but I "touch wood" haven't come off but I am willing to use any tips im given

I grew up there, I've found that relaxing is the best way.
Body positioning does help too, you're definitely right

drained the old petrol replaced petrol with Zed formula 95, checked all the fluids, they seem ok but I am going to replace them all with AMSOIL stuff.
took it for a little blat around the neighborhood that was FUN FUN! bike does not want to idle well, wants to die, it was better after a short run but still think something is dirty or idle screw needs playing with.
need to get a warrant before I cant take it for a proper run, also seems to be the suspension is stuffed!
its very sloppy and soft
but its at its new home!

They are pretty crappy normally.
Push down hard on the bike when it's sitting still and off the stand (may need a helper) how does it react?
If it returns real fast and harshly it is, in fact, fucked.

I will test it tomorrow with me and the wife and see how the dampening an rebound is I will let you know
I think though that I will need to start looking for an after market rear monoshock and front suspension,

May help you get the basic idea, it doesn't have to be that in depth.
If it snatches up real hard and goes clunk it is fucked.
It's not worth spending much on such a bike, really.
Make sure the rear shock isn't poked and that there is good clean oil in the forks.
You may want to add some preload to the front forks with some spacers if it's real saggy but don't go too far.
It really isn't worth doing too much more on such a bike.

This, and others from the series, look much better.
Still, bear in mind your not setting up a 600 to win national events you are dealing with the other end of the spectrum; trying to determine if cheap, nasty crap is rooted or just crap to start with.

ya I know what you are saying, and NO I am not going to take this to track days or race it, but I want it to be safe and sloppy suspension is not safe, if I needed and if I could get some replacement suspension with out buying the moon I will look at it. I would rather have a still spring with decent rebound and dampening than sloppy spring.

Not far off it!
Manfeild in reverse is actually very interesting.
Higgins is quite strange, you suddenly realise how banked it is and how much it normally opens but backwards it tightens...

I've never seen it run in reverse, I'd be well keen to have a shot at it on the GNbigthump

I've only done it as a passenger in a rallycar.
They have run it backwards for bikes before but I believe, like most tracks, there are safety reasons for not running it that way.
