Well, the weather as I write this at the end of January is just stunning.
Here’s hoping it will stay that way through until after Easter. The weather
was good but not so stunning for the Hanmer Springs trip.
All up there were 23 of us after ten others had to pull out for various
reasons. Nineteen of us were hosted to a BBQ lunch at Brayshaw Heritage
Park by members of the Marlborough Branch, the others making their own
way to Hanmer Springs at different times. Then fourteen of us on ten bikes
took the gravel option, while the other nine on seven bikes went by road.
Les P got himself mixed in with the gravel riders at the start and ended up
with us via the gravel over Taylor’s Pass as his route to get to Seddon.
All went well until a 4WD tried to mate with Steve’s DR650 on Jack’s Pass,
just five 4 kms out of Hanmer. Steve spent the night in ChCh Hospital and
an op in Hutt Hospital a week later and is now on the road to recovery.
With about 5000 members there's probably about 123 Steve's in Ulysses, whoever you are get well and if you don't RIP Steve
