Or any engineers. Anybody got any tips on removing the collars from the shafts of a CMG 36058 electric motor, most of my pullers will not fit and the one that did, bent. Will I fuck the motor if I heat The shaft? I need to remove the collars to get at the bearings. Cheers.:Punk:

Are you doing a bearing replacment? If so put the puller back on and give it a good whack. If you overheat the shaft you'll melt the some insulating and fuck the motor, but a little heat shouldn't do any harm. But I'd still try the hammer first were it me.

Bearings are shot, may have to go and borrow a puller that is a better fit. Did not really want to use heat on it, but may just give it a bit on the end of the shaft.

Big fuckoff puller. Which probably costs (incl bearings) more than replacing the motor.
Hyundai wouldn't even sell me the bearings when we pulled apart a drive.
Good luck

I think I may have to cut these fucking collars off, byjeyzus they are stuck on there, only problem with that is my lathe access has ended with the death of a good mate recently(the inconsiderate prick). And I will not be buying anything from CMG as they have not been very helpful so far.

Heating the shaft would be pointless - that would just make the shaft expand and the collar would be even tighter. Heating the collar would work better, if you can get enough heat into it quickly (so not too much heat transfers to the shaft)

But the right size puller would be best.

yea. Combination. Heat collar under a puller, taptap taperoo, both on the collar and the puller bolt.
Clamp all your vicegrips to the shaft in behind teh collar to act as a bit of a heatsink.
Gas torch probly better than heat gun.
And heaps of wd40

Tried the heat(on collar), big fuckoff hammer, and lots of crc(good fun when you heat it).Still no go, it Looks as though the collar disappears into the housing, so could be fun cutting the bastard too.

Looks as though the collar disappears into the housing,

dismantle it some more.

Got to get the collars off first, cannot get it apart further until these fuckin collars are gone.:angry2:

i'm looking at tie rods bro... they can sure as shit come off. then rear housing, rotor and front housing as one, then you'll have a better idea...

Housing only goes as far as the collars with the through bolts undone. Solid shaft all the way through too.

Freeze spray.
Fucked if I know where to get it from down your way, seeing as everyone in Gore is gay and wants warming lube

Im a cheap cunt, I just use spit, if ya lucky.:motu: Good thought on the freeze spray though, at least then I can smash it off.:Punk::Punk:

Have you got a rattle gun? If you do, use it on a puller (not yerself ya sick prick)
Or a very, very long bar, that's how I got the DR600 flywheel off, cunt of a thing, had to buy a special fuggin tool

there's one on the back, too??

i think you're doing it wrong.

doubt it would work on this scale. although, if you're that way inclined (and are sure it will actually pull off), chuck it in the freezer overnight, then put the gas torch on the collar ONLY, else you're going to crack some shit.

Do you have a local engineering shop with a big press you could borrow for a doz?

As for heating/cooling, another option is packing dry ice around the shaft, and then hit the collar with some heat and a big puller.

CMG the ones who make it say the collars have to come off before I can go any further. Already fucked 2 pullers on this stupid motor, mind you the guy that owns it and has been doing up the plates on it is a fucking goreillar, and if he has put some pressure on the spanner doing up the plates then it will be snug, to say the least.

Got a decent press, will just have to make up something like a beam puller to go around collar. Mate has a bearing heater that I will try leaving on overnight, and see what happens in the morning.
