I have a trickle charger that I used to charge the battery through the 12 cold socket on my 99 BMW R1100R. I now have a 2008 Suzuki DL1000 Vstrom that has a 12 volt socket connected directly to the battery.
Can I use the trickle charger with this set up?
Thank you.

Yes, but.....
The charging system will treat both batteries as one, this can have a detrimental effect on the life of both batteries.

Thank you for the feedback.
I only intend to charge one battery, on the Vstrom. The BMW is being sold, sadly.
So... One battery all good?

i'll give you 5$ for the beema.
if it's a normal ciggy socket it's usually rated to 10A, so you can huk a pretty big charger into it. if it's a solar charger from supercheap et al, it'll be putting about 300mA

Yeap, but only with your trickle charger, the wiring from socket to battery is unlikely to handle a high amperage charger.
Just had a thought...it will only work if the 12volt socket is live with the key off
