Was on my usual route home from work, lane splitting as usual. Bike in front of me is a slower splitter so after sitting behind him see a clear overtaking spot on the other side of the car next to us. Go back into the lane to the left, split past the car, back into the lane and in front of the slower bike. Put my hand out to thank the bike and the car and on my merry way. About a kilometer up the road whilst splitting with some more bikes, all of a sudden the traffic parts.

I sigh deeply as I look in my mirror to see a HP unit up my arse with the full christmas tree lit up. What the fuck did I do now. Pull over and get off the bike. Cops walks up to me and starts talking. "Sorry, you'll have to wait for me to take my ipod out and take the helmet off" I say. He waits. Eventually with the kit off, he goes were you the bike zg zagging through the others. I reply "nope", he goes "you undercut that bike", I reply "nope, I went around the other side of the car and then pulled back in front of the bike". He goes, "so you undercut the bike" and makes some stupid diagram. I go, no I undertook the car, which in splitting isn't a bad idea and came back in front of the bike, thanked him and went on my way.

Next thing out of his mouth. "Not a good idea aye, big bike you have, is it new".

"yup".

"Well be more careful, you may know what you're doing but the cars don't, careful with the big bikes and be a safer rider".

So, I'm not getting a ticket, I wasn't speeding, I didn't do anything illegal, you've just stopped me, for no apparent reason, with work colleagues driving past, to give me a fucking safety lecture, this, the rider with the bike endorsement on his licence for almost a decade, wearing all the gear with a hi vis backpack, on a stock bike, no noisy pipes, no stupid hidden number plate of fancy blingy shit , just a stock sports tourer whilst a multitude of t shirt clad sports bikes and other bikes fly past us, at clearly over the limit.

Sigh.

I once believed in the police.

Officer took the details of my licence and we parted, with me a little confused as to the whole point of what the fuck i was pulled over for.

This new busa just attracts fucking cops like months to a flame. I've be flashed twice by police on the open road, whilst following vehicles travelling under the speed limit.

I read the whole post...and to answer your question?

:Police: ''you may know what you're doing but the cars don't''.... is very correct.
The whole lane spliting issue gets chewed over every now and then...fact is, not every car is watching out for bikes.

Ponch was a fucking show pony with no substance and the smile of a used car salesman. Jon Baker on the other hand was the strong silent type and cool enough to have hung with Chuck Norris.

Ponch was there for the female & homo audience Deano

Larry Wilcox was the man.

I remember as a kid seeing LW take off in hot pursuit on his own Z1R. Did a skid. I HAD to have one from that day on. Totalled one on a test ride at 16/17 before I got to own one many many years later!

Doubt it.

For going too slow for a hayabusa, for sure?

It foils the plug, causing improper combustion, leading to pollution. We don't want that. Safer communities together, everyone.

No no no - the foil is for your head. So 'they' can't read your mind.

No ticket, no care.

I had a VN SS commodore with a full exhaust, shiftkit, headers, front bodykit and a full interior that was bright red. That car screamed wanker; I loved it. Got pulled over 3 hours after buying it and the next day after that to. In fact I got pulled over A LOT in that car for no reason. Never really gave a rats ass about it either, did mean burnouts to.

Isn't it so satisfying, disappointing, frustrating, funny and enlightening when the middle classes realise that the world is not what they thought it was ..
