Any chopper pilots here to shed some light on what went wrong (apart from the obvious fact that the pilot binned it)?

I doubt there's much more to it than that.

Lack of airspeed so there's a lack of lift.
Edit; Also take not that he's flying downwind.
But I'm not a pilot so I have no idea what I'm talking about. :bleh:

I think this, executing a tight turn at low speed and stalled the bird?
Definately a Hyopache.

Lack of air speed? On a helicopter?
I'm no pilot either but for some reason he didn't pull out of that turn quick enough, therefore losing too much altitude due to the angle of his rotor. May have been mechanical.

...thats NOT how ya park a AH1 Cobra!
...reason for crash:
"According to the National Transportation Safety Board report, the crash may have been caused by a mechanical failure with the helicopter. “[The pilot] was attempting to neutralize the controls in preparation for a normal approach for landing when he realized the controls were ‘locked and unmovable in any direction,’” but they are continuing to investigate the cause"
My thoughts....bullshit!
....it was just the usual reason for these sorts of crashes...showing off for the camera! (In a Vietnam era attack chopper...sure aint a stunt chopper)
but damn good to see no one got seriously hurt

Here's an onboard one. He clearly puts the helicopter at full bank. So it looks like airspeed wasn't a problem after all. More like a poorly executed maneuver.
