My 100cc 2t scooter has a 1.4L oil tank. Because I haven't had it long, I'm keeping the oil topped up every few days. There is a oil light, but how much is left when it comes on, I dont know. The user manual doesn't say. I'm going to top up the tank today and run it untill the oil light shows, then see how much to fill the tank.

The filler neck takes a rt angle turn and so I cant tell where the oil level is untill it appears at the top. This can result in an overflow if there is still oil in the funnel when the tank fills. I'm thinking a way of cutting off the flow as the oil rises into sight.

Would 100ml per 100 k's ( for eg, ) sound about right? Has anyone kept a record of what their 2t consumption is?

Obviously not a scooter but my RGV250 has a 1.3L tank and the light comes on when im down to 0.3L. Conveniently allowing me to put in a bottle of TTS without having to take it home with me.

Oil consumption is more to do with how far open the throttle is. Not how far you travel. Lower revs ... less oil used.

A more accurate way to work out oil consumption ... is the oil/fuel ratio you will use.

Put the oil in a smaller necked bottle. Less waste then. (too easy ???)

From when I worked in the Yamaha shop I seem to recall you could run another two tanks of fuel once your oil light came on. I'd just carry a bottle of oil with you. When the light comes on tip it in. How much you have left will tell you how much was remaining in the oil tank and you could estimate how much further you could have gone.

I topped both oil and fuel up tonight and will keep a note of how much fuel goes in until the oil light comes on, then measure how much oil it takes.

One quick test gave 70mls to 2 1/2 litres for 90k's. The fuel gauge is horrendously erattic.

Most 50cc scoots should use around 100ml per 100km use, so a litre of oil will normally be good for around 1000km.
Of course, some are more frugal than others. My oil light comes on with about 300ml to go till empty.
My oil tank has got that PITA bend at the top in it too, I just fill it slowly to avoid overflows, and use a homemade dipstick to see how full the tank is.

My Gilera Runner 180 2T however gobbles the stuff, more like 200ml per 100km, I'm topping oil up every 500km.
But then, the 180 is pinned on the throttle stops most of the time:headbang:

My scooter is a 100cc. 2t Topping up the fuel yesterday, just squeezed 3l in after 103k's. I'll top up the oil when the oil light comes on.
I'll add up the fuel used at that point and get an idea of the oil/fuel ratio .

I tend to sit on 80kph with some spare throttle left.

I've got a 90cc 2 stroke scooter and the oil tank capacity seems about the same as yours.The light comes on after about one litre of oil has been used or flashes on earlier if going uphill obviously because of the oil sloshing around.It seems to have a oil /fuel ratio of 1 litre of oil to 36 litres of fuel.I haven't had it long . It's a 1998 honda Joker and I'm getting what seems like a lousy 29km per litre fuel economy and it's all flat down here in ChCh. Haven't tried adjusting anything yet but I have put a new spark plug in which didn't seem to change anything. Runs ok though.

Mark, I would've thought your Honda capable of getting in the mid 30's pre litre. Changing the sparkplug would not really have a direct impact on the fuel consumption. I'm 95kg and my riding involves some rolling hills. I'm getting a steady 34k per litre. A 4t 100cc scooter like the Honda Lead is probably capable of 40k/l.
I'm using Castrol 2t mineral oil but may change to a semi synthetic oil after this bottle has run out. I'm going to post a question in the maintanence section about the differences.

Jesus, I wish I could get 30km+ per litre from my scoots. My AY50 Katana gets about 25kmpl, derestricted and exhaust opened up, the Gilera 180 about 20kmpl.
Yeah okay, I ride them hard and am not shy about taking them on the open road. Economy suffers a bit, but is fun though!
I run Castrol Activ 2T in the AY50 and Castrol TTS 2T or Agip Full Synth Racing 2T in the 180 Gilera. The Agip Racing oil has a castor base and smells like the racetrack; avgas and castor oil mix, mmmmm, blood lovely when you get a good dose of it! The castor stuff is best used as premix though, not through auto oilers.

Re. your point of mineral vs synthetic 2T oil.
Mineral 2T is absolutely fine for around town use when you're not raping the top end constantly. It's designed as a cheaper everyday option for general stop/start usage, on unmodified scoots. It does have a tendency to oil up the exhaust over time though.
If you're giving the scoot hell on open road/motorway or racing :devil2: where you're holding the throttle wide open for extended periods, then a synthetic 2T oil is much better at lubricating and protecting your scoot engines vital bits, ie piston and crank. It works much better at extreme engine temperatures, and also burns "cleaner" with less ash/sooty carbon deposit in your exhaust.
Most modern scoots will call for 2T oil with Jaso FC grade or similar, mineral or synthetic.

Topped up the fuel today and the consumption is a bit higher. 31.2k per L. The gauge was showing 1/3 full when I left work this morning and sitting in the red zone by home. It took 4L (125k) to bring it back to the filler neck, which tells me that it still had 1.7 litres in it while reading empty. If I ran it almost right out, I'd get 150/60 k's to a tank.

My runner with a 172 kit MHR Reed block and a few more bits uses
1.5 liters of oil over 1200km

so I did not think its that bad in oil comsumption thats with the oil pump pumping more that needed at idle
