View Full Version : Consequences for driving with exemption vehicle license

I'm wondering what the consequences of driving a motorbike with an exemption on the vehicle license would be - I believe it would now be 20 demerits and a fine but surely this is cheaper than the outrageous price for licensing. Also wondering about ACC coverage if anything would happen...

You get the $100 and 20 demerits stuff, and the added benefit of meeting officers who will now recognise you on your lovely bike.

It's cheaper, if you don't get caught.
Or you could put aside $10p/week and that'll cover your rego for the year and snacks for when you get depressed about buying rego

ACC still covers you if you're being illegal. That's the beauty of not living in 'murka

Pfft in murka we don't have lame WOF or registration (at least in Illinois). Insurance will cover you pretty much no matter what  and depending on age/how much shit you have insured ect insurance can be had for as little as 400$ a year comprehensive.

VASTLY prefer the system back home for vehicles!

Depends how many times you get caught.

ACC is no fault insurance. With or without rego ... you get money ...

Yep. but I have 4 motorcycles and have run them all without paying the new theft tax since it was introduced. One day they will get clever enough to get me, in the mean time I'm saving $2k a year.

I'm hoping they will move to ANPR so I can just use one plate everywhere.

So far no tickets.

You forgot to mention how sickeningly cheap bikes and bike parts are there! I'd move there to build bikes if I could
Last bike I insured was $300, full cover and a small extra track day cover fee. :2thumbsup

FFS. You don't have to be so fuckin precious about eNZed. You don't have to tell someone where the door is just because they say the Insurance/Wof/Licensing situation in another country is better. I'm sure they have other valid reasons why they prefer being here.

With no WOF, who is responsible for maintaining the vehicle or ensuring it's safe to operate? Please don't say the vehicle owner or driver, as over here I doubt the majority of drivers ever even check their tyre pressures, let alone anything else to do with safety. Many people think that a "full service" just means an oil change and wash, and neglect to do anything else.

The driver is responsible

Or anyone you can sue

Not to mention the lack of speed cameras most places and speed limits that aren't LAME! (50km = 30 mph in the city?!) But ACC is a vastly superior system I think...

I appreciate the responses though...

When it started it showed promise, but over they years it has been fucked about with so much it is just a shadow of what it should have been.

Anyway John Key is busting his arse to flog it off so what's left is an endangered species anyway.

I quite like and prefer living here thank you very much  But that's not to say I agree with the nannystate bullshit of WOFs and whathaveyou.

I know it's a scary concept here, but personal responsibility is a thing! If you kill yourself because your car is munted, nobodys too cut up about it. If you kill somebody else because your car is munted, you'll likely spend 10 years in prison with a hefty fine to match! :bleh: You see the odd dodgy looking car, but by and large most cars are fairly well maintained.

I just went through what I consider to be the 5000 k service for my bike.
I did an oil/filter/o-ring change
Scrubbed the drive chain and rear sprocket with kero and then lubed with chain oil
Washed out the air filter
What did I miss?

Did you check brake disc and pad condition? What about the suspension? Tyres? Everything else?
