Oil leak sorted. WOF sorted. Air In tyres sorted. Quick ride and time to fuel up. Dead Prila. WTF!. She just doesn't turn over. Push the button, yay let's go says the starter, click no says the ECU. Fizzing with moderate disappointment it was cig time. Called the shop for a pickup, called the wife for a pick up and sat and watched a guy thumbing the starter of his Suzuki. Hmmmmmm. Another dead Motorcycle.
What are the odds?

I blame the Russians!
Hope you get it sorted m8.....I know the feeling.
I recall stopping at the pub on a group ride and my gsx not starting. I felt like a proper F.tard.
It got the thrashing of its life once the we replaced the vacuum hose. Thanx to the neighbor at the Kaiau pub.Fin legend that guy.

Cheers for that... I think the other fulla having issues kinda put it all in perspective. Lots of head scratchin and the realisation that there's feck all you can really do about it without a computer, ha. If I ever get run around there's gonna be minimal electronic shit on it. there was a decent chap in a BMW that came over and had a quick looky too. Had a similar look on his face as to what I can imagine was on mine at first, that kinda, WTF, er, hmmm, maybe, nah, fuckin computers.
Hope the other fulla get his machine sorted.

What are the odds?
Odds are it'll be a relay failure, common failure on all that Italian rubbish

Call it a safety net if you will. For some reason the universe did not want you out on your bike at that time, hence the no go. A true blessing :)

:spanking: good to know as it should be a straight forward fix... if they have any in the country :third:
Edit: but how do you explain the Jappa?

If it is a relay you can normally get them from repco

R1 relay apparently, if thats the cause of your problems
Plently of those around, in fact theres one in the current STAR $1 auctions, probably about the only bit that can be used off the bike!
As for explaining the other guy, sympathy breakdown loooking to hang out in good company?

Which RR are you getting? Coz I have the old one and it works. A guy from Chch borrowed a few years ago whilst waiting for parts. You're more than welcome to it in the "short" term? If you put in an order for a spare stator I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands instantly .
If my stator is pooked I'll probably try to find out if Piaggio NZ can look into the "fix" that the Dutch and the Italians have been offered. Failing that I may even spring for the rotor if I can get an "ok" price as the MIL is coming out in April sound could transport one.

I'll be getting the Ricks R/R, the original may well be functioning but with a gruntier stator it'll be the next thing to go.
Figured Rick's built the stator so they've put some effort into making the stator and R/R compatible
I read mini_me's thread and had a quick look around for an '09 rotor. None at AF1 and none in the for sale section.
Don't really rate the chances of Piaggio NZ getting behind the european offer of upgrades, you've really only got to take a look at the amount of interest they show in actually running a dealership system here.
That said, if you do manage to make headway with them I'll be more than glad to make use of your hard work!

A similar thing happened to me today Masho. I was cruising along all well and good then opened the throttle to go up a hill and ... nothing, not even a bit of power, so I pulled over and checked fuel (even though there were no warning lights on), kill switch etc. Not a thing seemed wrong.
Anyway, about 10 minutes later, I tried starting it and the thing bursts into life. So I headed off cautiously and expecting more drama but it didn't happen again in the next hour it took to get home. Maybe a sick coil, crap in the fuel, vapour lock who knows?
Hope you get yours sorted soon without to much hassle.

Yep, the thought crossed my mind about Murphys input on a corner alright.
I've checked a few things out further and all seems ok at this stage. Some more investigation is due later, but beer o'clock has got the better of me.

Hey man, all going again.
Rough V x A calculations put my stator in the 500w catagory.
If you've ordered that rotor from ebay and want to use it, thats cool. I'll look at changing my rotor at the next oil change in 5000k's so no hurry.
FYI the Ricks R/R sems to max out at around 13.2v @4000rpm. Most reports on AF1 are suggesting 14v with Compufire's.
I don't know enough about R/R's to know whether this a "feature" of series R/R's or what.

I bought a Tuono last year, the bloke had it parked up for long periods. I got it home and it started doing strange things, started reading all the diagnostic stuff on the Aprilia sites. Got all hot and bothered, but then decided to buy a GOOD, NEW battery. Sorted. These bikes need alot of voltage on startup, and they need a healthy charging system. Dont bother with voltage reg, stator brown connectors, till you try a new battery. You're welcome.

Just replaced the starter relay on mine with an R1 unit. Went from sluggish to healthy cranking instantly. And that was after 3-4 weeks of sitting around waiting for the replacement.

In fact they dont need a lot of volts at all. Minimum of 10v at crank will see it start every time. What they do need is good CCA.
Hope you followed the "Correct Battery Replacement Procedure" (tm)
Welcome to the fold/fowld/fould, btw.
