Full licence test, motorway riding?

Can anyone tell me if it's compulsory to ride on the motorway for the full licence test?

What I'm worried about is that my bike (an '81 Yamaha YB100) will barely do 80kph on flat ground, I would never ride the bike on the motorway by choice so this is a slight concern.

I've booked with Northcross in Albany, from what I've read they take you down the motorway between Oteha Valley rd and Greville rd... the little YB would probably struggle to hit 50 up the Oteha Valley road onramp, let alone 100!

How long you been riding?
To be sitting your full it must have been at least 2 years. Why cant you borrow a bigger bike for the test?
If your bike only does 70-80kph you might want a little more practice on the open road/motorway before the test anyway.

And you're coming all the way from Dresden to do the license test here? Sorry, couldn't resist :D

Definitely try to borrow a bigger bike. I'm sure there are bike rental places in AKL where you can hire a nice 250. Maybe get it a day or so before the test to get a feel for the bike.

On the other hand shouldn't they be used to low-powered bikes having these issues in the license tests? Maybe give them a call beforehand and ask about it?

As far as I know the only requirement is an 80 km area, and I am not sure if thats restricted or full. Just tell them "My bike's top speed is 80km/h if you are thinking of taking me on the motorway". They may still take you that way, so you might want to go out on the section they use once or twice to get the feel for it. They may take you there to see how you will handle it (giving space to other motorists so they can overtake, etc).

When I sat my full about six months ago there was a 100kph section on the test, I was on a borrowed gn125 with a head wind and could only just do 95. The testing guy at the end said if I had been any slower it would have been a fail. If I were you I would check with the testing people before taking the test with a slow bike.

No, there isn't a motorway section on the test. At Northcross, they do take you down the East Coast Road, to both the 80k and 100k area. You wil be expected to do the speed limit, unless you are riding to the conditions.
No harm to tell the tester, that your max speed is 80k.
If you get the tester Ross, tell him I said hi...

Give Holeshot a call, they have(or had) a couple of GZ250s geared up for the tests. Cant remember the exact price but it was stuff all, and I had it most of the day. It was cheaper then getting my GZ fixed to do the test, Still must get to fixing her. Easy bike to ride, and can handle 100km/hr pretty easy in most conditions. When I asked the instructor what routes they take and about motorway speeds, when it was still 70km/hr restrictions she said you are expected to do the sign posted speed, but she only takes you down east coast road, but they can take you down the motorway if they choose. As mentioned in past posts, just let them know you can only do 80km/hr, they might be lenient, but you are expected to demonstrate you can handle the sitiations.
