I am looking for a not so pricey way to ship a motorcycle from Queenstown to Christchurch. So far I got an online quote from a company and it's $320.The bike is a GN250 which did cost under 2k...spending 300 to bring it to Chch seems a bit expensive to me. Can anyone help/advise ?

Northern Southland Transport used to have a daily Qtn to Chch service.
Should be the most cost effective, especially if you are prepared to wait for space to come available
Its probably still running - but maybe under a different name as they are part of the FH group.
You could give them a call 03-441 3620

Grab-a-seat Christchurch to Queenstown $59 one way. Ride GN250 to Christchurch $41 fuel. Total $100 and you have a great day's riding.

Just take more warm layers than you think you'll need. Nothing sucks more than coming across the plains near midnight under dressed. So long as you're warm, have some smokes, some Red Bull, and an MP3 player, it'll be fun.

Forgot to mention, riding the bike back to Chch doesn't seem to an option at the moment.

8:50 am flight to Queenstown, on the road to Christcurch by 10:50. Lunch in Omarama and in Christchurch by 5:30 pm (Yes on GN 250 that is quite easy). So no need to be riding across the plains near midnight.

OK, there are three possible reasons: Either
The bike is not road legal - In which case you paid too much for it. Or
You are not road legal. In which case you get someone from Christchurch to make the trip for you. I'm sure there would plenty of volunteers if you asked. Or
The Lindis road is closed. In which case I'm in trouble tomorrow.

Quote seems high, that should get it to Auckland? Ride it if you can. If you're not familiar with riding, spend the morning on it then go for it. You'll learn heaps on a long ride. You will get a sore a** though. Comfy seat until you spend a couple hours on it.
Nice to know GNs are still getting $2k!

Get someone else to ride it?
Oh, and get it serviced straight away. That's another $300 ;-)
