Thinking about heading to The Sandpit once my arms right, how do I know if my bike has a spark arrestor? Ive got a full Pro Circuit system on my KDX200.

I can see the spec of fire extinguishers but where do you put them? Mount to the bike or in a back pack? And I presume you need the same spec one for other trail rides? Ive seen a few bikes with them mounted to the front guard, is that the best place?

we used to carry them on our backs but then my brother and law hurt his back when landing on one in a crash, so we mount them on the front guard now, they can go on teh handle bars as well,

your pro circuit will not have spark arrestor,

Don't worry, just found it.

Just make a temporary spark arrestor out of wire mesh, like everyone else does when told they need a SA.
I taped a small sieve over my muffler to pass SA test for an enduro once, no issues at all with that.

Oh I see. Does it have to go at the end of the pipe? I took it from the photo of the one that fits my pipe it went in the join between the pipe and the muffler.

But new to this so probably wrong.

That would work, but the test for a SA is normally to stick a screw driver down the end of the muffler, and if it stops, its ok. Otherwise you would need a sticker from the muffler manufacturer stating it was a SA.

Do the extinguishers have to be a specific type?

Do the extinguishers have to be a specific type?A 1kg dry powder would be OK a better question would be if they are required to be tagged & in date? they should be pressure tested every 5 years the date of manufacture which is usually stamped around the base with 1kg's its more economical to replace it rather than get it pressure tested after the 5 years .

That's bigger than I thought, I read the woodhill site to say 300gram.

300g is right. Pretty cheap to buy. The regs requiring testing are for commercial premises. Privately you can hang your extinguisher on your wall forever.

I sell the full range of fire protection equipment but you can probably get cheaper 300g extinguishers from Bunnings or Mitre 10. In some cases I can't compete with cheap Chinese stuff bought in bulk by the chain stores. Although all fire extinguishers must meet the NZ standards to be sold here.

I would need a dry powder then?

Cheers for the info.

Yup! Mine are $34.00 RRP. Multi-class ABE extinguishers are cheapest and work on all types of fire so no matter if fuel, electrical or wood/paper.

I used to sell an aerosol type from Germany which was light and cheap but haven't been able to find them lately. I might look the manufacturer up and see if they still make them.

Do they have a bracket strong enough to be mounted on a trail bike?

They do have a carry pouch available, a belt pouch for $20.00.

The website is only a general listing of the different classes unfortunately as there are too many models and types to list each one. I will see if I can find a pic, but might have to take my own pic. Not a silly idea actually...
