Harley clone was my first thought. Sounds like engine performance will be a point of difference though.

Dollars of course. And Triumph have proved that modern takes on old bikes can be very successful.

Indian isnt the 'Oldest' Motorcycle manufacturer, they were out of production for decades..
Typical sales blurb BullPaki... Triumph have already proved that HD sales can be 'eaten into', and lets be honest if bloody Moto Guzzi had done the same type of 'marketing' as HD, they too would have eaten a chunk out of HD's sales... Since the 90's Guzzi build quality has improved, I ownd an 1100 Cali in 1995, one of the first ones imported here, it was a bloody nice bike, was reliable, yes it was ridden daily and the only mechanical issue I had was.. 1) a pushrod 'mushroomed' fairly early on and was replaced, and 2) the main feed (positive line) to the starter motor got burnt out, replaced with a much heavier item..
have a look at the new 1400cc California.... Guzzi has always had the 'ability' just have never gotten it together.

Why buy a HD, like assholes, everyone has one, and sorry Pete, but are often ridden by assholes.... have something a bit more 'exclusive'

General Custer didn't put up a competitive score though. Even the Indians 2nd 11 could have beaten Custer and his team. Or declared and put Custer's lot in again and gone for the outright win.

That would be Husqvana, - although its ownership and identity has been pretty soggy of late.

Yes!...Harley are slightly worried

They ditched MV and Buel to "focus" on there cruiser market...due to heavy competition in that market and a slight loss of sale's
...but I don't see Indian as a "Threat", its just another option for consumers, so Harley have wisely focused on what they do best....making Harleys!

...and I like the look of the new Indians

That front fender and rear hugger must make it the easiest bike ever to keep clean!

I'm still really fucking bitter about HD killing off Buell. I can't imagine that was really a wise business decision. It really was all bravado and politics wasn't it?

What's not to get? Buel didn't make enough money, they made the 1125 heap of shit when given free reign, and they got axed.

Simple.

I saw a shaft drive one in the weekend....is it one of those prototype ones here on testing?
New features like rear suspension, foot change and transverse V twin.

Based purely on the merits of the bikes I don't understand why Victory hasn't been more successful in NZ.
Maybe the Indian name will be more so.

I think it's more indication of the strength of the Harley brand.

BATBO - Bitter and twisted Buell owner. I understand that too.
That XB12X is still the best suited bike for me ever.
But then I'm still carrying baggage from a Nissan shafting 25 years ago too.

1125R. There are some good ones. There are some with ongoing electrical issues I read. POS is not an apt description for the ones I tested.
At the time of release it offered the same performance as a Ducati costing 30% more. I never had any trouble with a ZTL brake either.

Buell made up 3% of their Sales. It was a business decision.
The things that they (Harley) do to maintain the 97% as loyal customers are industry leading.
That's their focus and the share price has half recovered to pre '08.

I'd rake it, put a 26" front wheel and Turbo it and win a few shows.
Black out all those shiny bits too.

This is what happens when you work for Heavy Duty (http://www.heavyduty.com.au/) too.

Personal thought is that it's always good to see competition, and others perhaps buying something different, rather than being just another other conformist.
