its nothing new, people have been doing this for ages.

there have been several threads on here over the years about how we could register bikes as things they aren't.

Pretty sure I remember something about lots of people registering their bikes as 'private ambulances' or something a while back.

Well if they hit someone.. I mean WHEN they hit someone their insurance will be invalid. So good on the Police for cracking down on these FRAUDSTERS.

One local here had his Corvette on this rego class....I was told there was no restriction on the type of vehicle.

heh, I was sooo close to registering my van as a private ambulance on saturday, instead I was honest and paid the full $157 for 3 months. :( Still got to register the bike.:weep:

Yeah, A class I think it was, farm vehicles. My mate has his 60's land rover on it that he mainly uses on his farm, but drives it to neighbours etc occasionally. They have toughened up on it though because of 'boy racers' using it as well. They almost wanted to take it off, be he managed to convince them not too. Never see's main roads, just back country roads.

Not true. Insurance can't be invalidated for any legal status that didn't affect the crash. I.e Rego/WoF, unless the reason for not obtaining a WoF was bald tires, that caused the crash etc.

Insurance ombudsman has already dealt with many cases, and that's the ruling they've made.

But they will get an incorrect rego/fraud charge to go along with their accident.

I know it sounds shit, but I've read it in the papers a few times, and heard it from people in the know (people working for insurance companies). I'm sure there is plenty out there to back it up, but can't be f**ked googling. One of my insurance policies actually stated it as a clause, no WoF, no Rego is ok, but anything accident causing isn't.

They have changed it now,to only being able to go the straight route to your other propertys that are reg to the same person so you cant be visiting mates farms.And with motobikes its stuff all cheaper because its mostly acc charge.

I don't have a reference but anything inconsequential to the cause of an accident is unlikely to be able to be used as a reason to invalidate insurance.

I have had insurance payout despite my bike not being warranted at the time as it had nothing to do with the cause of the crash. Luckily insurance still pays for being a muppet.

Well I can tell you tractors can haul up pretty damn quick, and with a max speed of 35kmhr, I would say the vehicle in question not being a slow arse tractor with fat tyres is very contributory to the accident :bleh:
