Was just looking through some of the bikes on TM and was wondering where all the bike classes of yesteryear have gone, the 400 and 750 i4s and the 500 twins etc (Sports bikes I mean)

Any reason for this?
It seems that a lot of them stopped around the mid 90s, would be cool to see some new ones come out.
I would have thought the market would be quite good for them; I see heaps of gsxr750s (The one exception?) but none of the old fzr/zxr750s etc etc

When superbike racing went from 750cc to 1000cc most manufacturers stopped making 750s, except for Suzuki obviously.

I also miss the old standard classes of 125, 250, 350, 500, 750. I think it may have had something to do with the demise of the two strokes. Four strokes had to be so much bigger to get the same power so the 400 four strokes were equivilent to a 250 two stroke, 600 four stroke equivilent to a 350 two stroke etc.

Economics. The average punter can't be fucked with the upkeep. And there are more average punters than two stroke fans.

500's where related to a race class that no loner exsists. 400's where because japanese licence classes use to go 50, 250, 500 then open (any CC) but there was a rego and insurance cut off at 400, a 500 cost as much to insure and rego as any larger bike but a 400 was cheeper. As the japanese where making heaps of 400's then sold them to the rst of the world. There licences have changed and there is no longer a 500 licence or cheep rego for 400's so they are no longer made in big numbers.
