The International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) has struck an agreement with TTXGP to promote a new series of electric-powered motorcycle road racing events.

The new series will initially be run as a World Cup and as a support class to other FIM championships. According to the FIM, the series will comprise four events split between Europe and the US before the final takes place in Asia. The calendar is expected to be released shortly.

FIM president Vito Ippolito said “Through this agreement, we are taking another important step towards the growth and promotion of clean electric road racing.”

TTXGP founder Azhar Hussain added: “This partnership with the FIM clears the way for a single destination for all the world’s innovators to drive the next generation of technologies for competitive motor sport beyond the grid. We look forward to working with the FIM on this exciting project.”

In 2014 it is envisaged the series will expand to a minimum of six events and the year after will become ‘a headline event in its own right with a global calendar.’

They were racing electric bikes around the IOM a few years ago, it's come a long way, these things fly!.
Paul Dobbs was riding one of these electric race bikes in their development stages at the IOM when he was tragically killed
in the Supersport class.

The riders loved them but had several scary moments as being quiet, birds etc couldn't hear them coming........

Awesome!

I think the strides being made with development will make for an interesting tech race, which comes through as an enjoyable race to watch. About time too, the tech progression in traditional classes is getting beige.

If I remember correctly , the more juice you give a DC motor the more torques it puts out , and can be controlled by tyre rotations

ie , right hand is directly controlling rear wheel ...

but

the sound ........

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzz the leader just shot past ,,,,,,

On the sound thing, sure they don't make as much noise as other race bikes, but a 50+ KW electric motor isn't exactly what you'd call silent. It's a sound that I know will grow on me, don't think it'll surpass the 2T for awesomeness, or V-Twins for class, but it'll earn a few 'fuck that sounds cool' from me

Saw them at IOM TT last year - not as boring as people think. In fact I think when they start putting out superbike power and putting on similar pace it'll be quite interesting.

This is what electric racing needs, a serious series to get some coverage, some sponsorship and therefore development.

I still have no idea what they're going to do about the batteries....maybe they should have a solar race....haha then there'd be some moaners in here.
