Lol yup - the Legnum is called "Gizmo" due to the electrical gremlins when we bought it...
and the bike is called "Horse", an old friend that was into equestrian stuff named it!

The Vixen. Because of the way it wound its tendrils around me when I first test rode it...

8th March 2013, 16:48
Yep,
The mistress, she my other "ride"
Actually, I think my wife named her that. How many blokes can say they share the house with the wife and an Italian mistress, and ride both regularly.;)

8th March 2013, 16:57
Charlotte - I was riding her not long after thinking about names and it just happened - no real reason.
What's wrong with the name "ZX-10R"?
Itself sounds badass enough, I can only make it worse by giving it a nickname.

Both my bikes have names. The Beemer is called "Babe" because she is such a cute wee thing  And the WR is called "Saturday"
I like going for rides on Saturday :headbang:

the zrx is "hillbilly rex" or "the hillbilly" cuz its munted.
Cars are always gurtrude!

8th March 2013, 17:34
Nope. They are only machines.
Saturday is more of a Euphemism for a WR than a name innit. :-)

Ratti took the honour of naming my bike ‘Big Red’ something to do with the size and colour.
McFatty1000
8th March 2013, 17:50
Man, these names actually have reason behind them. My bike is named Courtney, and the car is Sophie. They just both seem like girls. Both cost enough with their high maintenance at the very least
Oakie
8th March 2013, 18:08
'Ferdinand' sometimes because when it hits 5000rpm the exhaust note sounds like a bellowing bull-calf. Usuallly though it's just "hello motorbike" when I open the garage door or "good girl" at the end of a ride.

Well, its a waste to modify a bike and then not give it more appropriate name!
One of my 'bikes' is actually just a frame and swingarm, and it already has three names; actually its more of a single three part name, giving the name more parts in it than the bike has

Yeah. And don't worry, I'm not suggesting naming it is a requirement for enjoying ones bike, we'll leave the 'what makes a biker' question well alone

I have Havoc for the R1.
and Axe-wound for the gsxr, because looking at it from the front, it looks like the designers hit it in the face with an axe, and wedged a headlight in the hole - its fucking hideous! also axe-wound because Im not a big fan of Suzuki's, and I feel like (even more of) a cunt (than usual) when I ride it.:killingme

Not sure why but been thinking of a name for mine just recently - "Bettina" 'cos that's kinda the sound it makes ("Bett-in-a, bett-in-a, bett-in-a...") and it sounds German. Probably never use it out loud, though.

Generally not into this caper. But when the kids were younger (and very into Harry Potter) we had a pop-top camper we called Hermione, since she was obviously female and we all thought she was magic. It amused us at the time.

When I came home on my first bike, a silver and burgundy Hyosung GV250, my wife took one look at her and said, "What are you going to call her? GLORIA?" Well, I'm an old rock n roller, and the title of Van Morrison's most famous song was good enough for me, so she became GLORIA and remained so after I sold her.
When I bought my second bike, a Suzuki Boulevard M50 in Candy Orange Max, my wife followed me all the way home in the car from Hastings. For 300 km she gazed at the number plate which ended in EYQ. She thought, "EYQ, eek, Angilique, Angelina Jolie, Angie - as in the Rolling Stones song of the same name."
So Angie she was. And many times I've come to a crossroad and sung to myself, "Angie, Angie, when will those clouds all disappear? Angie, Angie, where will it lead us from here?"
(Actually, GLORIA was released by the Irish group "Them", Van Morrison was just their singer)

The first bike I named was my first RSVR; called Sophia after Sophia Loren because it was beutiful and italian. Sadly she died 14 hours into our relationship. The next RSVR was called Gina after Gina Lollobridgida; I looked after this one as I didn't know any other stunning looking Italian actresses :)
I then had a yellow SV650 and called it Hermione as the kids liked everything Harry Potter back then. My next Blue SV650S bought for commuting was named Britney after Britney Spears; reasonably attractive and happy to ride her each day.
My current bike is called Hilda after Hilda Ogden, in your face and tough looking but quite sweet on her good days.

I never used to but the last few bikes have all had a name...
I named a CBF1000 in metallic black with full fairing, lowers and belly pan "Black Bess"
My XT225 Serow is named Billy (a Serow is a Japanese mountain goat)
My DR250 is named Frank - the previous owner called it Frankenstein because he thought it was ugly but I think he's rather lovely :)

Well, after GLORIA the Hyo GV250 learner cruiser and Angie the Candy Orange Max Boulevard M50, I'm breaking the link with calling my bikes after a woman's name in a song title.
My white 2002 Honda ST1100 is "Songbird" (after the song written by Chrissie McVie of Fleetwood Mac which features on the Rumours album), that bike makes sweet music out on the road.
(HINT: for pure musical enjoyment, listen to the late Eva Cassidy's version of "Songbird", WOW!)

Thread dredge:
I have had a new bike for two and a half months now. Never been that fussed about naming my bikes but this one has got a name now.
I went out to the garage one night last week and the bike's ignition immobiliser light on the instrument cluster gave it's regular wee flash. I realised that I was looking for the flash in the semi-dark and that it actually gave me some comfort. I thought "Awww, Mr Blinky". So now my GSR600 is "Mr Blinky".
I'm sorry.

Age and maturity are related but it's not a fixed relativity.

My daughter's work scooter is 'Lord Tyrion' because he's a mischevious little imp. (Only 'Game of Thrones' fans will understand).

Being a Busa pilot, one of my riding buddies referred to my bike as the "Laughing Gnome"...and he was at pains to point out it was the bike he was referring to
The wife on the other hand has referred to many of my bikes simply as "The Mistress" on account of time and money spent

My latest bike, a 2012 blue Suzuki Boulevard M50, is named Layla, in line with all my other bikes being named after women's names in song titles.
After a while, I found I was calling my white ex Police Honda ST1100 "Norma Jean' after that photo of Marilyn Munroe standing over that air vent in New York.
So it's been GLORIA, the Hyosung GV250, Angie, the Candy Orange Max Suzuki M50, Norma Jean, the Honda ST1100, and Layla the blue Suzuki M50.

Still NEDWN, just the number changes.

Depends.
Sometimes it's Babe. As in "Get me out of this in one piece and I'll spend the rest of the day polishing your pretty arse, Babe."
Usually followed shortly afterwards by: "You willful little SLUT, what the fuck was all that bullshit mid-corner back there?"

There's a racebike here called Val...a big black girl, known to throw rocks...
The old man had an NSU Prima scooter, known in the family as "the prima donna" - for obvious reasons.

Have I named my bikes? No. Unless "I'm taking the Zed" or "I'll be on the CB" counts. Who else hasn't named their bike, and why?

The Sled
Cos it's big, heavy, chromed out, fully accessorised, big Rrsed cruiser in deep metallic purple.
Just reminds me of those big American lead sleds from the 60's.

INDIE
Named her on a very long ride to Cape Reinga from Auckland. Can't remember why - it just stuck.
Indie was more Indiana Jones than the race car meaning.
Trouble is... Indie is a 'his' name, yet I call the CBR a 'her'.
Weird. But to me it's the coolest name ever. :Punk:

Weird, or what?
Sure girls name their favourite childhood dollies 'n' shit..
But giving a bloody mechanical contrivance a pet name? Nah.. whatarya..
'Spose you'd lovingly insufflate all over the brightwork while doing the soft cheeses cloth rub down..
.. soon after a sweatingly hard thrashing thereupon, too..

Can't think of a name for the Hayabusa, I'll give it some thought ...
When I got my yellow Busa, one of my mates coined it Skool Bus. Bumble Bee was mentioned, but the wife just calls it Mistress. Come to think of it. Mistress has been a common name for bikes I'd venture.
One of my colleagues (an elderly fella I'll admit) referred to the Busa as the laughing gnome as per the David Bowie song, and he mumbled something along the lines of "nobody would catch me" while riding it.
On the whole naming a bike does seem a little pointless...
