When I first started reading KB forums I pictured everyone as owning brand spankers thou's etc but now I can see there is a massive base of riders on a huge range of bikes. As an L plate rider (they seem to have left the 70k limiter off my bike though. hehehe) it would be really cool to go for a ride with some more experienced riders. I couldn't imagine anything worse than following a gn on a bigger sportsbike though. It'd be 5 mins or less then "see you at the end" so I'd like to gauge how many more experienced riders have little slappers or smaller second bikes that would be fun to take out on a buch ride to pass on your good habits to some noob's and how many 'ell p-laters would be keen too. Plus it would be cool to meet you guys in person, what areas are people from and where would be a good ride, maybe scenic drive and lunch at mine? Ideas anyone?

it's actually one of the best ways of learning, is to ride with more experianced peeps and watch their lines and riding styles. From there, you can see possibly better ways of doing things and holding your position on the road. Ultimately, it's not about going faster, it's about being safer, smoother and learning to read the road ahead. Going faster is almost a by-product of this. Next time you get on a group ride, have a chat with other riders (not always on bigger bikes, but that's a good start) and just ask them anything you have on your mind. And even ask someone if they wouldn't mind doing a section of the ride at a slower pace so that you can follow, or they can follow you and give you some pointers.

Best form of learning is riding. Best form of riding is with others.. Just watch the posts for rides and who goes on them, or PM a few riders one fine weekend for a smaller trip..

Yeah totally! Anyone thats into 1) Riding at less than race speeds and can give constructive feedback to help noob's be safer and less annoying to other traffic so they don't hate us and use us for (more) target practice. 2) Noob's who are confident at 100 and are wanting to take a joyride + getting some feedback and trying to apply skills that more experienced riders have learned.

there's some awesome quiet roads out your way, those are a good place to start, and to get others riding.. Don't be afraid of going over 70 either. Just don't be wreckless about it, and don't stress about it. You'll be more of a danger to yourself and others doing 70 in a 100 zone, than you will be just staying with the traffic speed..

Yeah there are a few good roads on the shore i like heading out to riverhead and along the old albany highway is also alot of fun and good for practice on the corners, always made more enjoyable if you have company

Yeah, the cops I've talked to say that they wouldn't pull an L plater over for that unless they are being reckless or look like they're not coping. I rode though riverhead and woodhill areas yesterday and was thinking I'd do Scenic Drive this Saturday or Sunday morning. I was late for work this morning and doing 100 was way nicer than lanesplitting in.

Brain mate just keep an eye out in Meetings forum for a ride going on this weekend, if no one posts one soon, i will for Sat, all speeds come along, everyone waits, and no one bitches about slower riders, there will be pleanty of experianced guys n gals round to help out. Might see you there.

You seem to imply that you have to be good to ride a thou? I think there are a heap of thou riders like myself that simply like having a big bike - not because we are so skilled that we have out ridden everything else. Don't equate bike cc rating to rider skill. The best advice I can offer ya is to get in contact with the honda riders club and find out when they are having a training day (on track), round the $120 mark for non members, and the riders are grouped according to skill - great way to meet people too.

Nah Brains, you don't have to be good to ride anything, I've seen people with no licence throw their leg over and get free plastic surgery too. If you want to get the most out of a bike that performs you do need to learn some things and I would definately like to be a "good " rider. Right now the law says I ride a 2fiddy so while I'm here I figure I might just pick up some skills to be ready for a bigger bike. Bruce & Smorgen, pretty keen on for Saturday, if nothings posted we can go where ever's nice for a cruze. I have a 1 1/2 year old so I'm tied up sometimes and notice is good. PM me whenever.
