Out of curiosity does anyone know of any reasonably priced bike hireage?
I'm sitting my full in december and I thought it would be nice to take the missus away for a weekend on the back of a bike this summer, but I need something a wee bit bigger than the GN for that. My initial thought was to hire a HD, because that the only bike hire I knew about, but one look at the prices and that was that (after the ambos restarted me heart that is).
Does anyone know of any decently priced bike hireage in the upper North Island? (or alternatively in the Marlborough sounds area as we're heading down there at some stage these holidays too) I can hire a decent cage for $50 a day, but the few places I've seen that do hire out bikes seem to want $250-350 a day, which sadly is well out of my price range. I'm not looking for anything terribly big or flash (I ride a GN250 for gods sake), just needs to be able to carry 2 adults, some gear, and do the speed limit, and not require a mortgage to hire for 3-4 days.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Not sure which sites you've already tried... or what sort of bike you're looking for.
This one here is about $125/day if you hire for 3-6 days XJ900 Diversion (http://www.nzbike.com/2004/BikeDetails.asp?ParentPageId=6&CategoryId=1943970440&BikeId=22#)
Or you can get the Hornet CB600 (http://www.nzbike.com/2004/BikeDetails.asp?ParentPageId=6&CategoryId=-1133305014&BikeId=20#) for the same price per day
The generic pricing page is here (http://www.nzbike.com/2004/Category.asp?ParentPageId=7&CategoryId=-1772139756)
Good luck! Let us know how you get on. :)

Sweet wildboar I hadn't seen that site (not entirely sure how I missed it when googling for rentals *boggle*)
Looks like if I put it off to not peak season I can actually afford a trip :-)

I see Colemans here in Aucks hire 'em out... can't recall prices but they seemed reasonable (and lower than your quotes...?!?) Problem is they are in Aucks - and you're not?
Good luck chap.

Is it an option to buy a cheapish bike and re-sell it after your holiday (your net cost being the difference between what you paid for it and what you get for it)? It wouldn't be economical for a weekend, obviously, but if you were planning a more extended tour it could be a thought. You'd pick up something for 2 or 3 grand (e.g I bought a good sound GSX1100F a few months ago for $3500) I'd imagine if you're not too fussy, and if you buy right you'll get most or even all of it back
