Hi Everyone,

I am looking for some Gixxer calipers K1 or K2 6 pot calipers to improve the front end stopping power of my 1996 ZZr1100. preferably in good knick as I do not want to have to get them rebuilt. More than happy to sort courier etc/ organise pickup and what have you.

You can check out my trademe rating by plugging in my username (kakapo76)- I dont mess anyone around and pay on the spot.

Alternatively if anyone is aware of a good reputable wrecker/ dealer who might have a set then please let me know.

cheers

Roddy

Better off with SV1000 or GSXR600 (same thing) calipers.

Cheers, are they still 62mm centers? and just out of interst why are they better?- got no dog in this fight just want better stopping power and more progressive feel. I see on some forums fellas arguing that 6 pots tend to be high maintenence and gum up in the center piston, I am planning on going to braided lines also. Any advice much appreciated.

PS, does anyone recomend a good brake man down here in ChCH? Got sonme serious shudder and grabbing issues I want to get sorted.

Got sonme serious shudder and grabbing issues I want to get sorted.Back then the GP bikes ran them, so naturally the flagship bike also got them. But the GSXR1000 got a bit of a beating in the press over the quality of the brakes, so they dumped those pretty quickly when they went to radial mounts on the K3. They work ok, but they need to be in tip top shape. Only Yamaha use 6 piston calipers (radial mounts) now, and presumably only as a point of difference. I suspect it's to do with the cross section of the seal not being suitable for the piston size.... they're about the smallest I know of that use that section, except for maybe some rear brakes where feel doesn't really matter much.

Yeah, all the SV1000 calipers had the same bolt spacing (the SV1000 calipers are just RWU fork GSXR600 (00-03?) calipers). Nice caliper.

The ZRX1200R and ZRX1200S have six-pot calipers on the front. Tokikos.
