Hey everyone,

After peoples opinions and experience here. I find I am always told that if i buy track day / racing brake pads they will be horrible on the road as with out any heat in them they are basically useless.

From my experience the opposite is true, of the pads I have used (DP brakes SDP range on my rgv and Ferodo XRAC on my zx10r) they work just as well as the stock pads from cold if not better and a hell of a lot better under some serious stress.

Now do i need to be running even more aggressive pads than this for warming up the brakes to be an issue or is this more of a historical thing that people have in their minds from older styles of pads?

Cheers in advance for any input.

Most supposed "race pads" are just a high speck road pad with a better ability to cope with high tept. Most high speck pads that I have used respond the same as you have experienced " just as well as the stock pads from cold if not better and a hell of a lot better under some serious stress". Most pads that ebc etc sell will be road pads as they don't want to be sued in other countries from some one buying pads to put in there road bike that don't work when cold leading to a crash

If you buy a full race pad you will find that they do respond to a bit of heat with a better braking response but you are talking about buying some thing like a genuine HRC pad, they still have good cold response and a very linear increase in braking as they heat up. Had some HRC pads for my fireblade for doing track days and was presently surprised how much better they where than the standard pads. From the mecanicking that I have done for friends of mine that where racing race pads have one big drawback, they either have high wear rates (sprint pads) or they are very aggressive on disk wear (endurance pads). It's the old thing that you don't get some thing for nothing.
