Its coming up to rainy season soon and I commute to and from uni from Botany. Below are images of the wiring clusterf**k. It doesn't look at all tidy and it doesn't look very water proof. Am I right in thinking this? and how can I go about waterproofing it? Mass usage of electrical tape? https://www.dropbox.com/s/h63ywa6eq6ze17k/2013-03-19%2018.02.38.jpg The connection junction on the lower left of the image seems really exposed. https://www.dropbox.com/s/jiooqdgpqoamn81/2013-03-19%2018.22.44.jpg?m Another view: https://www.dropbox.com/s/53vg8hn9z62km8m/2013-03-19%2018.22.59.jpg

Looks like you CF'd the images too.

The images didnt seem to be there. But a mass of electrical tape would not be the answer, as it would trap water. At 12v, corrosion is the biggest enemy.

Heat shrink where possible, good sealed connectors, put it all in a battery box or routed under as much fairing and bodywork as possible and fish oil dabbed on connectors to help prevent corrosion.

i cut thin strips of hot glue then slide shrink wrap over, as you heat it slowly the hot glue is melted then pushed out with the shrink wrap

now thats waterproof

You can get shrinky with sealant already in it, works well for a fresh build but you can't get it over most existing plugs / sockets.

What I use there is a rubber self-amalgamating tape, you just stretch it slightly as you wrap it on and it essentially becomes a solid rubber tube over the joint area.

I also spray the shit outa any exposed contactor or plug surfaces with prolan, also around pretty much every exposed joint.

You can get the sealing shrinky and the self-amalgamating tape from some electrical trade outlets, the prolan from some engineering supply outlets.

PS: I used to use spray-on band aid too, but I haven't seen it for ages.

wow thats really cool Ocean1, i had no idea...

for already joined connectors i use hot glue, can shape it pretty easy and seems water tight enough

your stuff is likely better though, im a bit of a noob, ill have to get hold of some prolan

skip along to repco and grab a roll of "TE connectivity" tape, or wiring loom tape.

couple of bucks.
