Off to Colemans this morning, keen as to pick up the bike that bought sight unseen and not ridden.
NEDWN VI was waiting outside when we got there, a quick signature and call to Protecta (more on that part later) and I was off. This bike is a dream to ride, took a while to get used to having so much ahead of me, but once settled, I knew the decision to purchase the way I did was the right move. Extremely smooth gearbox and power delivery. Black with the gunmetal rims and frame sets it apart from the stock bike, and with almost 100 Ltrs of cupboard space, we can easily pack a cut lunch and go to the beach for the day…or a week?

Stopped off at Ed’s place on the way home (coffee and flying ginger nuts yum yum) an hour later, we arrived home with the same thought in mind..to Puhoi for a burger it is!
So Anne go her gear on and pillioned for the first time in ages, those big boots of hers are not the best for clambering on and off, lucky there are regular boots here somewhere when needs must.
Just have to get the tyres changed now and ride it…might take it up north tomorrow, Anne has to go north anyway so I might as well tag along.
All n all, I am shit happy with the bike and 99% certain I will keep this one more than the allotted 2 years.

PS: The FZ8 is for sale. :corn:

I have to say it will take a bit of getting used to riding pillion again. Very scarey riding out the driveway sitting on a bike that is moving and not actually being in control of it :scooter:

Will have to spend a bit more time on the back of it to fully appreciate the ride, but first impressions are all good. My stupid platform boots are NOT for using on COBB. The knee bend ergonomics would make for a very uncomfortable ride and I would probably have to remove the knee armour for comfort. I am looking forward to trying it with my standard boots tomorrow. Panniers are weird, but I can actually reach out and hold the handles of the side ones without a stretch so that was interesting as well. Maha is a very smooth rider so I did not notice any sliding forward even though I am sitting a bit forward than I would like due to the top box. It sits directly in the small of my back. Time on the seat will determine if that is going to be an issue.

The grin factor though is something that tells me this was a great move for Maha. Now all he needs to do is set up that solar panel and make the top box into a small fridge and we are set :D

I'm still not sure if you guys are joking with that solar powered fridge. Can you actually do that?

This is definately a congrats Mark thread, I would not part with my Millie unless my dream bike pokes its head back up

The fridge idea, has actually been discussed  Apparently it can be done :woohoo:

It looks even better in the metal!

Everything is so well integrated it could be a factory set up. Mrs. Bear was quite taken by it too and liked the look of the pillion seat... ;)

And miss the fun of dividing it into equal box size portions?

You'd need to vacuum pack said portions too, bugger having guts & poos dripping on yer rear tyre. Nice bike Maha, black is best.

Fucking hell you are starting tho give DMTD a run for his money when it comes to changing bikes.

Congrats on the purchase and FYI, if you havent already figured it out, liberal use of the rear brake on those beasts in the set up for the corners gets them turning in real well

Other than the obvious fairing difference, how does it compare to your CB1300?

Nice bike! So Colemans weren't too busy for you after all?

They were busy in that, it took a good 10 minutes for anyone to suface and speak to us when we walked in...I approached salesman Mike as he walked from the toilet area and was asked the mandatory ''ya right there''?

''Yeah mate, just come to pick the bike I paid for yesterday''...''Oh right um, well heres the keys, just need you to sign here and you're good to go''. :corn:

Protecta...call them and was told that I had called outside their office hours and they couldn't help, suggested I try their website, may that would let me get a cover policy for the bike?...
Anne got onto their website and ended up calling the National Sales Manager, he was horrified at what she told him, he was at the beach hop but did the cover thing over the phone with a few minor details.

Colemans customer service could do with a tickle up (on this occassion)

Hows the rebound?

Any wheelies yet?

It 100% suits my riding and there will be no upgrades. The best I ever do is change the can. The stock one? I don't mind at all be honest, not as ugly as some....I just forked out $16995 on Friday and still have not fully recovered...;)
@ Ender EnZed ..I have missed the big bike and though its early days yet, the Suzuki (can't beleive I am saying this) already feels a better bike that 1300. Once I have added the T30's it will be complete.

Fine weather forecast this coming weekend Carl, so should get in as much time on the bike, maybe a day trip here and there, a party on Saturday night but I don't drink much nowadays.
Looking forward to riding this bike, and being an exponant of the rear brake, yeah we should get on just fine.

hi Mahi, been a lurker on here for a while and always enjoy your contributions, congrats on the new bike.
We have an 09 1250 are rapt with it. Has panniers and packrack ,the pillion finds the panniers a bit tricky
to mount the bike over, being a little vertically challanged , but finds the pannier frames great handholds.
The packrack has also come into its own as an anti-eject feature on occasions.:innocent::innocent:
Have fun and I look forward to your future posts.

Anne is of similar stature and found the mount/dismount a tad awkward with all that cupboard space clipped on, I read that by using the riders pegs helps where this is a concern.
In saying that, it wont be often that I have a pillion, Anne has her own bike.
Thank you for your post.

It's on TM, getting the tyres swapped over onto the Suzuki tomorrow. The Yamaha will then brand new tyres -140 kms. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=572885416&ed=true

That's a great looking bike, and sounds like it goes as good as it looks. Sure it's a lot of money, but for what you get it seems like massively good value. Ditto on the congratulations!

On the money side, I couldn't afford the $20-24K for something else that would do the same job.

So, how did the bike go over easter?

As it happened, only got to ride it on easter monday, but we went in a south west direction from here on some very nice roads. It gets up to speed real quick and the one notible difference is, the speed that you are doing..have to keep an eye on that, must the fairing making that difference  On the FZ8 or the CB1300 that I had, speed could be kept to a non ticket level because of the wind on your body. Got to ride it again on Tuesday, it's a wonderful bike to ride two-up or not. Very very happy with purchase. Can't wait till I have to load it up and go away for a weekend.
Nothing will be added/changed, the bike is puuuuurfect for me just the way it is.

At least change that exhaust pipe - 6.5kilos hung off one side of the bike can't be good. I put a Beowulf carbon fibre pipe on mine - just over 2kilos .. and the engine breaths a lot easier ...

(Sounds better too)

The pipe is about the only thing I ever do to a new bike, but truthfully..I don't mind the sound or look of what is on there at the moment.

Looks and sound is one thing - but the Big Bandits (or TNAB) has 6.5 kilos hung off one side of the bike ... that must affect the handling ..
