Heading to Turangi on Good Friday from Lower Hutt?

Hey KB,

I am heading up to Turangi on Good Friday and will probably be going up via SH3/SH4 or SH3/SH43. If anyone has suggestions on a route to take or if they are heading north and don't mind riding with a 4 month old rider (legally) then I am open. As an FYI, ride a F650GS, try to stick to speed limits so I don't get fines, don't mind easy gravel roads (bike has road tires), I smoke so if anyone does come with, there will be a stop/break at least every hour, if need be there are beds, couches, bathtubs, trampolines, dog kennels etc. to sleep in at the old mans place in Turangi. I'll be heading up to Auckland on Saturday to see my son so if anyones keen to join me for that leg (Turangi - Auckland via ???) then sweet as. Will check the thread in the evenings.

Google Maps of proposed routes (http://goo.gl/maps/HlYsW) I will be either taking the Paraparas or The Forgotten Highway depending on the day. Should be a good full day :woohoo:

SH 2/ 3 / 54 is good route ... sealed. The bit of highway one left to Turangi isn't that bad.

I will be at the Avalon Duck Pond at around 9:00am and leaving around ten minutes later. Heading throught the Akatarawas then on to Wanganui. From there I will either be heading for the Parapara's or to Stratford and the Forgotten Highway.
Anyone is welcome to come along for all or part of the ride. :scooter:

Looks like it was a good trip. Must head up that way sometime, I haven't been over the Para Paras for years!

It was an excellent weekend. Clocked up 1700km on the bike. I'll write up a ride report if I get around to it.
